How dangerous are the zombies REALLY
Melosira replied to Sandmnbakery's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I think the zombie AI and threat level is strangely inconsistant. I'm not sure I've figured it out 100% yet. I find that I can still run around looting Cherno and Electro with relative impunity. Zombie's aggro from further away, but they still lose line of sight quickly and I find my tactics change little. But yesterday, I tried looting the military tents in Berezino. On foot, playing solo, I found it impossible. All the tents spawn 1-2 zombies now. If you try and shoot your way in, the entire zombie population in Berezino will decend on you in seconds. Stealth approaches also failed. Crouching or even going prone, I invariably aggro'd some zombie from 300 yds away and shortly, I had them all stirred up. Strangely, I found I could drive a truck right up to the tents and with little or no aggro (though actually getting in was another story). But this makes no sense. A zombie will spot me prone from 300 yds and come running, but in a truck, they largely ignore me. -
Unless you're up for some PvP, I question why anyone would want to go to the NW airfield. I think you generally find higher grade loot at heli crashes. And if you're fairly new to the game and worry a bit about zeds, Starry is far easier to get in and out of without stirring up a hornets nest. Of course there is that sniper hill to the north.... But what some others mentioned - get a bicycle! Imo, it's the best vehicle in the game. It's quiet and doesn't need fuel. You can go 50km/hr on the flats. Also, a lot of people don't' realize, it's about the fastest vehicle off road in the game. When I respawn on the south coast, finding a bicycle is one of my first priorities. I love em.

Anyone knows good sustainable servers?!
Melosira replied to Norinco's topic in New Player Discussion
....one of my biggest complaints about playing on private servers. I've been playing a lot of the new maps and one of two things always seems to happen. The server goes off line after a few days, or some admin seems determined to change up the map every week. Please, to all of you admins out there - can't you stay with the same map for at least a few weeks? -
Yeah, I've had this happen several times. Last time I played on Cherno, I had a decent camp, good gear, vehicles, etc. Then the server went off line for good. All was lost. So then I switched to private servers/custom maps. Since then, it's been even worse. Ever time I get fully geared up, the server admins decide to change to a new custom map and I lose everything. I still play, but expect that whatever I have will likely be gone tomorrow. Just waiting for the SA......

I used alt-f4 last week to bail out of a hacked server. The entire server was teleported to the NW airfield. Yes, at least we weren't dropped out of the sky to our deaths (the usual outcome of teleporting), but I wasn't going to wait around to find out what was next. Logged back in to another server. It put me at the airfield, had all my gear etc. No concequences. It was actually the first time I ever used alt-f4. With a hacked server....yeah, I'd probably do it again.

I've had this happen a lot. And yes, it always happens when you have the best gear. I finally snagged an L85A2 the other day, logged out, logged back in a few hours later and found myself on the coast with no gear. I never even got to fire a shot with the L85A2. I've seen some discussion about wearing ghillie suits, and logging out while standing or being prone in thick brush. Seems the interaction of the ghillie and tree branches, etc in the same space causes some failures when logging back in. I'm to the point that I won't wear a ghillie suit anymore - it seems my odds of spawning gearless on the debug plains increases every time I wear it. Could be a coincidence, but I think not. In fact, I think it can happen logging out, prone, in brush without the ghillie suit. If I'm careful about moving out into a clear area before logging out, I've yet to respawn in the debug plains.

Are bear traps still in the game? I was finding them left and right when they were first rolled out. Now, I haven't seen one in weeks.

Good point. 4 or 5 is probably not a glitch. So is this a server-side hack?
-
They're not necessarily a cheater. For some reason, it just happens. I was on a server last night, logged out, then logged back in a couple hours later. Turned around and there was myself! Scared me to death, until I figured out it was another me. And yes....I was able to loot myself (I needed more FAL ammo). I have no idea how this happened, but it wasn't anything that I did.
