Like to see some other positive stories of players sticking to their guns when the going gets tough by the way. Preferably of other players you've observed. Jacob and Joppers were kills 14 and 15 in what I'm hoping will eventually be a 30 kill montage (with slot 30 reserved for someone in particular) As it stands the shot that brought down Joppers was the single trickiest shot I've ever had to pull off in DayZ, hitting him in the foot between two trees from behind a wall at 850 meters away. Had another group of 4 that tried their best to see the scenario through after them. Group of four but the only names I got were Leonardo and Fhillipe (SP?), the latter of whom I killed after a LOT of deliberate effort (my aim was just terrible that time for some reason, I coulda gotten Leo but I just barely skimmed him). They all seemed to log after Fhillipe died, but up to that point they were by far the closest anyone has come to identifying my location, coming within 300 meters. I think Fhillipe himself saw me cause he was running with his head turned in my direction. -
I've never seen a sniper rifle.

I'd shy away from expanding to other mods. That's exactly what Sixlauncher tried to do and as a rule, full Mod Managers need to be pretty labyrinthine. Focusing just on DayZ lets you keep it tight to it's needs as a mod. But that's just me. It's your project :D -

FYP.. Then please enlighten us. It's already been posted and people ignored him. ESP stands for "Extra Sensory Perception." ESP hacks and exploits are lighter weight and doesn't require packet injections or a backdoor, thus it's not as blatant or easy to detect. A basic example would be changing all the player character textures into glowing neon solid colors for easier identification. That's ESP. So no, the mentality that everyone is either completely legit or using the most blatant hacks out there is completely foolish banter from the visibly paranoid. -

That is more likely a hacker. And did he have a bulletproof vest over the sleeveless shirt? green? Cause if he did that was Camo Clothing, which is legit.

This might sound really esoteric but is there a way to read and display a server's weather conditions? Mainly draw distance. It would cut down on a lot of the server hopping for anyone using a long range weapon if they knew ahead of time that the server had a draw further than 700 meters. Plus it'd just be nice to know it's raining like Noah's Ark in there if I want to embrace or avoid that. -

It's also worth remembering that nobody's a 1 trick pony. Personally, I role play a little - decide what kind of survivor I'm going to be when I start and stick to that settlement to the end. My latest character, who's on his 12th Day, currently sniping, was basically born from me going "I think next time I'm going to be the bad guy in everyone else's story." I've had peacekeeper characters too who did what I could to diffuse conflicts with no deaths through deception and misdirection, like successfully implying that our band of 3 was closer to a band of 7 that 1 guy had just chest thumped against and walked him out of town. What I'm saying is that DayZ isn't for people with thin skins and little imagination. -
I prefer revolver. Feels more accurate. 1911 is supposed to be stronger but that matters little when they both kill a survivor in 1 blow.

It's just a vocal minority that grabs their Venezuelas and climbs the highest mountain to bellow their contempt for life itself until sunset every time they die or stub their toe or whatever. They never grew out of that mindset that an adequate level of complaining will eventually get someone else to do what you want for you. -

I'd rather a reset wait until I'm done my sniper montage at least. I mean some of us have ongoing projects that would get disrupted. I know it's an alpha and the general sentiment that your character can be cut short at any time by issues beyond anyone's control, but this is not one of those issues. Plus I wish there wasn't such a huge "take my ball and go home" mindset on here. -

Last I checked DayZ's server hosting rules and guidelines, a lot of that is grounds for permanent Hive blacklisting.

I signed into a server with only like 3 people on it, close to night, in this one random building on the edge of Polana nobody could ever possibly care about. I got quick glimpse outside the building (which only had 1 door) before it loaded in to see 2 of those 3 dudes prone crawling toward it. All I had was my AS50 (which I had never used before) and no crosshair. One guy came in, didn't look into the building's main room where I was, so I shot him and he instadied. The other guy sat up and readied himself to gun me down. I leaned out and shot him in the chest. I don't think any of us were expecting a PvP when it happened. Like 20 zombies later I picked them both over to get a coyote backpack, gps, NVG, more ammo for the AS50 (one dude had another one in his pack) insurmountable medical supplies and a revolver with more ammo than I could carry. I turned down a DMR, silenced assault rifle with silent ammo to boot and tons of other doodads for the stuff I hauled away from the kill. Those two must have been righteously pissed. -
I just logged too... ...because my gun turned into another one in my hands. Fortunately I was quick enough on the trigger that the next loading retained my proper gear.

I thought about this too, but realized it would get really dumb really fast since everyone would do it all the time. As is, humans and zombies share all the same prone animations so use that and hope they don't notice your backpack. -

Yeah, it's a core mechanic in Arma 2. You just don't see it often in DayZ because it only uses the lower grade weapons available (example, no HIND or something). I find the communication towers at the 3 airfields to be especially fragile. -
1 shot doesn't mean it's instant. That's my point. It just means they're going to die, but during that bleedout where they can't bandage they can still shoot back. I'd rather have 4 bullets that all do lethal damage than two pairs of 2 that can only kill combined. Even the AS50 yields death only after a second or two. And yeah, all the better guns need a zombie sidearm. My handgun of choice is the revolver. Makes zombies a non issue.
