The OFFICIAL list of PROMISED FEATURES as of 2018...a reminder

Recommended Posts

Hi guys,

I'm making this post, because I would feel bad if I didn't. Alot of you are aware, I believe, but I want everyone to know and have present in their minds, what was officially promised to us before the 1.0 release and has NOT been officially scrapped to date. I believe that it is only right, that if any of the things on the OFFICIAL list below are being scrapped, it needs to be told officially and not just sweeped under the rug. That being said, here is the list I speak of (with link):

Quote

EXCERPT FROM OFFICIAL STATUS REPORT "Status Report - 23 October 2018" [https://forums.dayz.com/topic/240439-status-report-23-october-2018/]

Features and improvements planned for BETA/1.0, or originally in 0.62, but moved post 1.0

  • Helicopters 🔲
    • we've arrived at the decision that base building implementation will provide enough of an end goal for players, so helicopters can be added later on
  • Climbing over obstacles
  •  this feature required additional programming and animation support that we've decided to invest more effectively into other parts of the game
  • Throwing items
    • throwing requires a lot of additional specialist work on physics and network synchronization, and we'd rather invest that into vehicles and other features
    • this includes throwable weapons like grenades or smoke grenades
  • Bows 🔲
    • the implementation of bows means an introduction of a completely new weapon type on 0.63 and was always a risky goal, in the end unfortunately not achievable in 2018; we've invested the programming time into gun play, melee combat, vehicles and other core features that were more important
  • Character and infected ragdoll 🔲
    • unfortunately, there are many network synchronization cases that we need to resolve and implementing ragdolls in combination with death animations will require more time and resources
  • Two-way doors 🔲
    • while a huge quality of life improvement, changing the doors to two way opening will require additional rework of some of the assets, and is not achievable in 2018
  • Fishing and fish traps , decaying bodies , carrying characters 🔲, contaminated areas , item coloring 🔲 etc.
    • these are considered flavor features and for now, work on core gameplay features was prioritized instead

Now after alot of questions from dedicated community members we have FINALLY gotten at least some semi-substantial answers from community/forum-manager ImpulZ answering the questions of @IMT

Quote
Quote

IMT said:

"What's bothering me as well is that he has answered on specific questions but not the most important question out there. They're scrapping shit again but not saying what they're going to scrap. It might not be their intention but this SR sounds to me like "we're stopping development, we're adding a few things like guns, items but no new features. However, here is our DLC, give us money... LUL!".

Unless the DLC is for free. I'm never ever going to buy that DLC and hope no one else does as well. It would be outrageous and a real stab in everyone's back. It would mean that in the end, they didn't go for the survival game they initially promised and kept promising but went with the BR game."

ImpulZ said:

"There will be more features, more details on that at a later stage. As mentioned in the Status Report, the Survivor GameZ are currently intended as a free Alpha test, while we consider them for an additional game mode.

However, there will be a paid DLC at the end of the year (which is not Survivor GameZ, nor Namalsk). Regarding that, we stand by our word that no previously promised features will be hidden behind a paywall."

"There will be more features, more details on that at a later stage."

So at least we now know, that the team does not consider the game "feature complete" yet.

"Regarding that, we stand by our word that no previously promised features will be hidden behind a paywall."

And it is recognized, that there were indeed promised features, which will not be behind a paywall

While these are finally some good news with substance, it still leaves open if and if yes, how many of the features on the list will make it into the game...keep this list in mind boys and girls and mention it, where fitting. Some day it might be the only thing we have in our hands...

Our focus for DayZ for the rest of 2019 will be: bug fixing, stabilizing, balancing, and modding support.

so, no new content this year.

Aherm.... Like in the past they don't want to tell us what is going to be shipped but they said "New content (guns, cars, etc.)

Vaulting and the contaminated areas are considered as content. Just wait for the following months to see 😉

I think the key part of that statement is "modding support".

I think what's going to happen is they'll continue to fix the bugs, tweak things here and there and add more abilities for the modding community who are now the ones responsible for finishing this game.

You've neglected to add promised features from as far back as 2013, which have still not been delivered...

Today was awful. They really shouldn’t do any more status reports 😂

On reflection though, let’s wait and see what happens in 1.05.

If it follows the same pattern as the last few patches it will land on expy in early August.

Trust me though, I’m not forgetting the contents of that list any time soon!

Also, I checked Bohemia’s ‘careers’ section a couple of days ago, and saw they were hiring for both Martin and Baty’s position. I would guess that development is not wrapping up any time soon if they are about to take on another 2 full-time community support managers.

To be fair, I think it was just a poorly constructed status report. It came off as "we are not really going to invest in this project anymore" when really it was "yay we've made it this far, lets make this game even better". I might be wrong, but time will tell. The announcement about those devs leaving should've been on a separate post as I feel like it confused some people. It should also have included something about how the company is still committed to this project. Lets be real, I can't believe they would release a $50 game on console and then just abandon the project...lets hope I'm right.

With the Dayz Survivor Games and the new dlc for the end of the year, looks like they want to keep this game alive for quite some times.

But I do have to agree this status report was miss leading....

Disgusting behavior from Bohemia imo. I'm not going into a long tangent on how they have continuously lied about promised features. But I feel like a dingus for defending this game for 6 years.

"Advanced health system"

What is "advanced" about it? There's 100 health hitpoints. You also have shock and blood. They are also hitpoints. Seems self-explanatory. There are no vital organs active apart from the "brain", which doesn't really count because the head is a "vital organ" in most every shooter. There are no broken bones.

"Advanced system that's hard to explain".

One thing that (obviously, from my post history) concerns me is this, from Peter Nespesny:

"... currently there is no projectile damage falloff with distance or energy/speed drop in new DayZ. I can assure you, it's a temporary situation and both issues are on our to-do list."

That was nice to hear, at the time. But he's gone now, and so are all these other important figures of DayZ. So is damage drop-off going to be left out, too? With the health system comments, and backtracking (example: deactivation of their new vital organ hitboxes), I have no confidence we'll see damage drop-off reintroduced. Maybe it will... maybe it won't. And then basically, DayZ would no longer have any "ballistics" worth noting at all.

So, have the ballistics not changed since 1.0?

308 winchester and 556 still have railgun properties?

They tweaked it a couple of times. But it's not a revamp as needed

They improved a bunch of them, but only the ones that were spawning in-game at that time. Since then they've added back some "new" rounds, like 5.45mm, which were not fixed on their first pass. So 5.45mm is an example which still has the old "railgun" properties.

But it doesn't matter as much if they don't lose their speed, as right now none of the bullets lose any damage anyways. That's a major factor, missing!!

As for their ballistics pass this is what I had to say:

mUU1QJk.png

The ones they did the pass on (so, not the 5.45mm) act like small arms bullets now, but some numbers are even worse than the previous numbers they had from 0.3X until 0.62.

Edit: that's only external ballistics. As for damage numbers, it's not horrible?... there are still some issues... maybe placeholder? But still.

Hello @ImpulZ any comment on this?
I fully support the game, make feedback tickets to make it better, and love seeing it flourish but this status report is just saddening 😞

We need feature parity with .62 and the MOD! Why the reason you guys are ditching the game early, you guys have the chance to become the best survival game that is amazing to play?! Please add back all of the features/mechanics/content as promised, or else it is a huge F you, to the community over+ the years!

The game needs to also stick to the hardcore authentic vision that doesn't hold your hand and is unforgiving, that's what made it popular in the first place. So please do make the medical system more advanced and something like an objective to work towards to fix, repair, and be rewarding at least like 0.62 or the MOD.

There needs to be a need to go to medical loot spots, all the medical health system consists of right now is just eating and drinking to white status, and passively regenerating like it's an Arcadey COD Shooter!

This includes:

  • Making Blood more of a factor and prioritization in combat (losing more blood when shot, hit, bleeds, and forcing you under unconscious when under a certain threshold)
  • (The health regeneration speed can remain the same if this is actually is implemented ^^^ (blood point))
  • Fractures, as a safe way to immobilize players, torture them, or even as an engaging goal when they're broken to find medical items to repair! (Immersive and Emergent Gameplay!)
  • Working Saline Bags
  • Working Blood Bags
  • A Better Unconscious system (needs to be more suspenseful, no 3PP looking around while Knocked Out (KO), No hearing audio while KO like zeds hitting you, Longer and random Unconscious times that are unpredictable which creates awesome moments!)
  • Proper deadly diseases that YOU NEED TO WORRY ABOUT AND FIX (antibiotics, pills, etc. like the .62 system 😄)
  • Better Damage System (with vitals organs re-enabled and .380 & 9MM actually USEFUL and not BB pellets)
Possible Pain System? (like in DayZ Mod, where you accumulate pain from shots/hits causing the shakes, which encourages the use of valuing painkillers 😄

I also would like to mention as @-Gews- mentions that the above ballistics issues get addressed with proper bullet velocity drop-off and simulation, at least like in the ARMA series which as a Bohemia title, SHOULD be a STANDARD!

Also Tim, here are my thoughts more in detail
Please read what the community is saying in these threads, this is a huge mistake and you should reconsider 😞

I hope you read this Tim and forward this to the design/management devs or whatever. This game can be soooo great, you guys are so close 😧

https://old.reddit.com/r/dayz/comments/cdvzk5/status_report_july_2019/

I thought they might finalize the game this year, adding all the stuff they promised over the years: helicopters, bikes, survival features. All the things we got used to from previous versions. Guess not.

Modders could still do the game justice, but this is sad.

So I tested the 556 versus the 545, and the 545 was - to take an uneducated guess - 100-300ms faster at 700 meters.  Since the AK74 is the onyl gun to use it tho, and since it is inferior in every other way to the m4, it doesn't really matter.

Heck, nothing really matters anymore.

I had strong hopes they would finalize the game this year, adding all the stuff they promised over the years: helicopters, bikes, survival features. All the things we got used to from previous versions. Guess not.

They originally said before or after the 1.0 release it would take 2 years to get all the old and new planned content. It seems like next year is when most of the content/features get re-added back based on the latest status report.

What I'm a little peeved about is that it was said before 1.0 that they had to decide either:

  • Keep the game in early access, add all the content and features in but the game would still be buggy until then point everything was added in
  • Launch the game out of early access, on a more stable, optimised, less buggy  platform and do the remaining content/features thereafter

They decided to go with option 2, but the vast majority of people wouldn't have minded option 1. You would have had a few people be like "still in early access lolz" or "missed dates again fml" but anyone who cared wouldn't have minded another year of hard content/feature additions on a less stable platform if it meant the actual DayZ 1.0 launch had everything in it.

The 1.0 launch was meant to cater to option 2, but it's looking like the remainder of the year is basically going to cater to bug fixing, polish, optimisations etc which is what was intended for the 1.0 launch anyway, so it comes across as though Option 2 wasn't the best option in the first place. IMO it seemed more like a push to get DayZ out on consoles.

I hope that these polishes, fixes and optimisations this year at the very least will:

  • Increase official server player counts
  • Increase Infected A.I number counts
  • Increase Animal A.I number counts

If any devs read this, I condemn anyone who gives you guys problem over some of the team leaving such as Eugen, Peter, Baty, Martin etc. It's no ones business but their own and yes it is normal in the Industry for people to move onto different companies/projects etc (many years working in QA to first hand see this). Developers get treated more like celebrities these days rather than folks just wanting to do their job like anyone else and get subjected to toxic fandoms & assholes. However, don't drop the ball on DayZ, you are in a good place and the most popular it has been since the game first launched in Dec 2013/Early 2014.

You guys have properly supported your older titles with a lot less of a player base/audience. There's no reason for you guys to not do what was intended/promised for DayZ considering you have more than enough resources, and now motivation with a nearly 1000+% concurrent increase in player base compared to the last few previous years. Most games do not recover a playerbase over time like this. With potential competition with survival games like Dead Matter or Taviana: The Origins hitting player testing this year, it could potentially draw a lot of that player base away if the proper focus on what needs to be done in DayZ, isn't done.

Unfortunately that's how I see it as well. But on the bright side, they confirmed that there will be more features and if not in 2019 than that is also confirmation that development will carry on in 2020.

Yeah, the clarification on the status report definitely made me feel better. The fact that they are currently working on vaulting is great. As long as one major feature follows another, I’ll be happy.

Also, a large portion of the player base is on console now, so it’s only fair that their game runs well. I guess that’s the main reason for the focus on bugs, performance, etc. I mean, they have, arguably, paid for continued development. Also, if the game’s run well on console, imagine how much smoother it could be on PC!

It’s a new era for the game, and it’s in a very good place, right now. Let’s hope they keep it going.
