Newbie in Need of Assistance

Recommended Posts

So, I have occasionally dabbled with other map editing programs associated with a few other games.  I am interested in learning how to create a map from scratch, but I don't really know how to get started.  I did a few searches, but there are so many sites, videos and posts on various forums that it has been a bit overwhelming.  Is there anyone who can point me towards a tutorial or something that can explain how to obtain and configure the necessary programs, files and whatever else I would need to make a map?  Thanks in advance.

@Matthew Longtime has a tutorial series, I know there's a lot of excellent tutorials for ArmA and the workflow/tools are likely very similar, but this is where I would start along with the DayZ community modding wiki.

https://thurston.pw/Usage_of_L3DT

https://thurston.pw/How_to_make_a_fictional_DayZ_Terrain

This is the best arma 3 guide imo, most of the tools are the same.

...many months later...

Took a bit of a break from DayZ before I saw this.  Was looking into finding tutorials again as my interests have revolved back around to DayZ and saw your reply.  Now, no offense intended towards Matthew Longtime, but I have tried watching his tutorial series, to no avail.  While I'm sure it's chocked full of helpful information, I can't understand his speech at times and found myself becoming frustrated very quickly.  I would be watching, following along fine, and then he would quickly mumble a string of words requiring me to rewind, replay, examine and repeat.  There are often times in his videos where I can not, for the life of me, figure out what he's saying at all, despite repetitious, close analysis.  I was hoping, that by now, someone else, with more consistent enunciation, would have began their own tutorial series.  It still amazes me that BI would release all these tools, which are probably capable of so much, without letting anyone know how to use them.  They've relied, entirely, upon the community to just open these programs and figure it out for themselves.  That approach may have worked if these tools were a bit more intuitive with descriptive UIs.

I will check out this "pmc editing wiki", but these "thurston" links do not work.  I just keep getting a 404 error.

Thank you for the reply.

If anyone has any other leads to tutorials, it would be GREATLY appreciated.
