Did the game ran out of weapons?

Recommended Posts

I find sniper towers the best place to find mags. Found four AKs at staroye tents last night. It's the funny thing about assault rifles, I'll either find a load of M4s or a load of AKs but rarely a mix.

Spent two hours looting NWAF last night and found the following; 6 tactical helmets, 5 FNX-45's, 3 UMP-45's, 8 pairs of boots, 3 pairs of gloves, 2 tanker helmets, 3 helmet shields, 4 tactical shirts, 2 jackets, 5 pairs of pants, 1 tactical vest, 1 plate carrier vest, 2 backpacks, 5 AKM folding stocks, 2 AKM poly-stocks, 1 M4 hand-guard, 2 Acog scopes, 3 Kobra sights, 13 FNX-45 magazines, 11 M4 magazines, 7 SVD magazines, 15 boxes of 45ACP ammo, 12 boxes of .556 ammo, 3 boxes of 7.62x54MMR ammo, lots of loose ammo of previously reported calibers including some 9MM, 3 combat knives and a partridge in a pear tree... The only thing I was after was 7.62x39mm, or at least mags so I could strip the ammo out them and leave mags behind. Wound up finding 5 loose rounds and one box of it in a small hamlet about an hour later. I'm sure it boils down to just a bad luck run, but darn!

I'm amazed at how you kept track on everything you found and at the same time could keep an eye out for other players and zombies.

I estimate building materials for residential and commercial projects for a living and have always had a photographic memory. But... I did forgot to mention a handful of UMP-45 mags! I wasn't so worried about other players as I waited on the outskirts listening for gunshots for quite some time and have read all over this forum that most players are now in the woods duping as though it were a meth habit. I didn't see a single sole in NWAF for that entire two hour grind, so I think the members that reported that are correct, but then NWAF is pretty darn big and I spent far more time checking guard towers than anywhere else there... can't wait for ladder sliding to be back in!

To despawn an item, all you need to do is pick it up and throw it away. When you leave, it won't stay around for long.
Standard play: Clear out someones tents, car, stashes, throw all their collection of mil rifles & ammo into the bushes - they'll despawn by the time the owner shows up from hopping for more. (and if they aren't hoppers - who likes big-stash collectors anyway? )
So WHY is this an "idiot" tactic ? - Destroying supplies is bog-standard strategy in REAL combat.

..er..  no one ever collects assault rifles so they can hunt chickens, right?

And if you are going through mil bases - it is for ONLY ONE reason,  admit it.  Do you think it is "more honorable" to deliberately leave weapons behind to give other players a FAIRER or EASIER & BETTER chance of killing YOU?.  That's .. strange ..

*

Bottom line - any items you take away (however you do it) from spawn points - new items will spawn in to fill their place.. So no point in working up a sweat about it.

The problem with your analysis is....this is NOT a "combat" game.  It's a SURVIVAL simulator.  Sure, combat in an inevitable part of the simulation, but what is the purpose of some a-hole wasting their ammo killing some fresh spawn on the coast?  I highly doubt it's because they want that ONE soda and ONE apple they are carrying.  They are obviously not a threat, and the chances of that player stumbling across your camp or stash or whatever is slim.  Chances are, they'll get killed by zombies before that.   Anyhow, I understand that military style weapons are, and SHOULD, be rare, but even common firearms like the shotgun are now scarce.  It would make it a little less "painful" if they would hurry up and put OTHER weapons in the game like the Scorpion or even the more common SKS.  With only three different pistols (IJ, FX, and CR), two submachine guns, and four rifles (M4, AK, Mosin, and BK18), pickins are slim to none.  Yes, I know there is the SVD (or VSD), but the only way you'll find one of those is at a crash site, and the BK133 shotgun is pretty much non-existent at the moment.  Screwdrivers, crowbars, lead pipes, wrenches, and lug wrenches serve no other purpose than a melee weapon, and THAT system is broke as all get out.

I genuinely get confused when people talk about how rare and hard to find guns are. I live in the UK so I guess I'm used to not seeing guns in every house. Personally, I think things like shotguns and rifles should only have a chance at spawning on isolated farm houses, as farmers would have had weapons such as those. Maybe the occasional pistol or smg in police stations. Guns are very common. If I don't have at least a pistol and shotgun within one hour of spawning then I'm not looking hard enough. Guns should be hard ts to find. Or maybe the people complaining about lack of guns are salty because they don't have an assault rifles within ten minutes of spawn? I'm sure I'll get attacked for saying that. I often here comments like "I ain't got hours to play, I got a wife and kids and a job and I'm... and I'm... Yadda Yadda yadda". Well, I got all that too. So, if I'm jumping on the xbox for an hour, I play a game that gives me that fix for an hour. Sometimes that might be dayz and ill just do a bit with my character, or I might jump on battlefield and have some firefights. But I certainly wouldn't jump on dayz to get my fix of gun fights. In fact, dayz is probably the last game I would use for that. And I think that most people who have played dayz for any length of time would agree. And that's not a criticism of dayz and its combat, that's just the nature of the game. Hours of looting interspersed with two minutes of heart pounding player engagement. That's the beauty of dayz and all the suggestions for adding lots of weapons and making them more readily available just diminish this unique quality that the game has.

Don't make this some geo-political issue of the freedoms of the U.S. and British socialism.  I am not "salty" because I can't find a military grade weapon (no such thing as an "assault weapon") within a hour of spawning.  I am salty because after a week or two of traversing the map back and forth, and not finding one IN A MILITARY BASE or POLICE STATION.  I actually find more pistols, shotguns, and Mosins outside the large cities in the smaller towns.  Nobody said anything about jumping in to DayZ for "gunfights" either.  I, through numerous posts, have actually complained about those that do nothing BUT start gunfights.  Actual player interaction is more rare than a military weapon.  Also, DayZ requires more dedication than an hour here and there.  To get any actual results from the game, one needs to set aside at least 2-3 hours per session. IMO.

so far I havent had a problem finding weapons. For the fx 45, sg5k and usg 45 no problems in certain places, assuming I survive (have been kos in two military sites). If anything, mosins seem to be more common for me, but the bullets have been a pain.

for the cr61 skorpion, ka m, m4a1, its more a problem of finding the weapon or the magazine. couple of times ive run around for a week or two looking for the magazines, or vice versa. Currently I have a load of M4 bullets and two mags but no sight of a gun. But I did find an akm last week, and got the mag this week . . .

the vsd i have only seen once at a helicopter crash site. didnt even see the smoke. I came out of the forest while travelling and there it was, right in front of me. took another two days to find mags and bullets.

Err, OK, I wasn't making a political statement, merely pointing out that guns are not common in the UK. Socialism? Err again, no clue what you're talking about. Also never used the term 'assault weapons' so not clear what point you're trying to make there.

I wasn't actually referring to you in my statement specifically, but there are many on here that feel they should spawn fully geared.

This is a snippet from your original post - "Or maybe the people complaining about lack of guns are salty because they don't have an assault rifles within ten minutes of spawn?"  How's that for a clue?  Nobody cares about the commonality of guns in the UK.  The setting in the game isn't the UK.  I do, however, apologize for turning this into some pissing contest.  That wasn't my intent.  I DO agree with you that too many people do in fact gripe about the scarcity of certain weapons.......I am one of them, to THIS point - if people are screwing up the central loot economy because of "duping", a.k.a. CHEATING, then that's where I have an issue.  If I am simply "late to the party", so to speak, and someone snatches up a gun before me.....well, I guess that's what I get for having a job and not getting to play until 6 or 7 pm.

From what I gather about the way loot works, duping doesn't affect the spawn rates. I have no facts to base that opinion on other than what I've read by other people who have a better understanding of the games mechanics. They could, of course, be wrong but unless the devs pass comment on this we won't know. Realistically though, I don't see how it could affect anything. People bring loot in and out of servers constantly, without duping.

Whilst I don't approve of duping, or any game exploits and cheats, I don't feel heavily affected by it. I just think it's sad for the people doing it that they must get very little real satisfaction from doing it. I guess it's mostly kids with very short attention spans doing it.

Even in a IRL live war zone you will not find a functional assault rifle in "10 mins", and definitely not in an evacuated camp.  ..  Military folk tend NOT to abandon weapons frequently; for some reason.. They'd rather dump a tin of food or a beret than their assault rifle .. its a thing with them.  Also, when surrounded and attacked by zombies they seem to hate leaving unused ammo lying around.. I cant imagine why?  Maybe they want to hang on to their guns even more than you do?

I have to agree with this as this is basically what I'm finding in the game for a while now however I do find quite a few PU scopes though but still less mosins, finding alot of BK-18 and BK-133's  :)

NEVER found a Scorpion.  As for 7.62X54R, I find it in the most innocuous places.  Lots of times, I find them in the bottom of the open bookcases of the split level style houses, and believe it or not, in the corner cafes in the larger cities.  Of course, the best way to get them is off of military zombies.

Thanks for the advice regarding the mosin ammo, I managed to find some rounds in the bookcase in a small town in the middle of nowhere, I have also found a scorpion last night in a police station but it was badly damaged so left it there, but also had two scorpion mags which I found in security buildings which I also left there with the scorpion for another player to pickup or despawn as I really was just looking for a mosin of which I found two in one town to the west also in the middle of nowhere. now to try an stock up on some mosin ammo.

I wish that it would be harder to find complete ak or m4, so you had to build it out.  Making a complete gun RARE

Well after running around for days with an M4 with two mags and some extra ammo, I decided to ditch it for the mosin and bk-133 and actually try to chat to the players that I come across, seems like if you run around with an M4/KAM then players tend to either just avoid you or shoot to get the M4, some players possibly assume the player with the MIL gear is hostile

I've seen others wondering where all the weapons went.

Today i started up the game out of boredom and to my surprise, weapons are gone.

NWAF empty, Stary MC nothing, kabamino MB nothing but compass and knives. So i started to server hop.. Not a single ump, akm or M4. Even tried waiting 15 minutes for a server to restart....nothing.

Did the game run out of weapons or are there too many stashes full with weapons so no new can spawn in? Lol i believe us console players broke the game.

I played for 4 hours today, haven't played since September so was looking forward to all the changes. Joined the only empty server as I wanted to get used to any control changes and get my sensitivity right and all that. Found lots of new items like the new compass and new ski masks, slowly and methodically made my way to NWAF, searched every single barracks, then all the tents at the north, then kept going North to the other barracks at the top, I found one SMG, the ump looking gun. Got a couple clips. Heard a guy running around so went prone in the barracks, he burst through the door like he thought he was the only person there. POW right in the kisser. Took his AKM.

Guess my point is, I used to search NWAF and all them tents and barracks and get an M4 an AK and fully kit them out. I can't believe I didn't find 1 AR.

Good to be back anyway. Game feels smooth, and I played for a full 4 hours with no DC and then it got dark and I got to use my new head lamp, but it has a red light. Lol atmosphere. Just eaten and jumping back on. Dark is very dark lol.

Did the same thing about a week ago after letting the game develop over the last couple of months. I am very pleased with the progress it has made. Made my way to NWAF probably within the first hour an popped into the south barracks and I did find an AK, pistol suppressor, gladly took them, and didn't think anything of it. Over last 12 hours of play I noticed that I have not seen a single AK or M4 since then or any suppressors of any type, just pistols, and maybe an SMG here or there (I have seen shotguns in smaller towns). I'm glad I picked those up before the wasteland became more barren. I kind of like it though. It should be hard to even get any kind of gun, and make it more about survival, crafting, and building.

It should be yes, but you have to consider that there are factions who are duping insane numbers of rifles. This gives them the clear unfair advantage. There are shitheads that could arm a small army, while the players that stay true to the games core are stuck searching for weeks. Feels bad man.

I have heard that duping caches cause really bad lag. I have noticed really, really bad lag around some areas. Does this have any basis? Also, as I have put in another 6 hours since yesterday, there is no type of military gear other than jackets, maybe a helmet, and a handrail for the M4-A1 (which currently does not exist at the moment from what I have seen), even at even the most remote bases. It looks like every place I have been, even the remote of the remote had been looted already. But, either way, its just jackets, a PSO scope, a handrail for a non-existent gun, etc. Is this because the Devs have changed the game by making gun loot extremely rare, or, is it because of the bad actors that you described? I don't know that may clarify my purpose in the game going forward if you have any insight.

EDIT: and by purpose I mean do I just focus on resource and building  around the fringes of the map, rather than trekking 1.5 hours IRL to a base that lags beyond comprehension and is just going to be devoid of anything of real value?

I was fortunate enough to find 2 M4's in the same barracks at the NW military base last night. Both equipped with almost full magazines. I also attached the handrail that you came across and I believe it improved the accuracy of the rifle. Assault rifles are far and few between right now due to RNG being screwed by dupers. Keep grinding though and you'll find one eventually. Came across two heli crashes as well. Neither had a VSD unfortunately.
