Looting Talk - A discussion on DayZ Standalone looting //Problems and Solutions

Looting in DayZ has changed a lot in the last year and continues to be improved and iterated.

Here I discuss the current positives and negatives and other aspects to potentially improve the looting systems in game.

hey Beav, love your vids like your thoughts about the game. been is game from the start and still love it all patches have my way and change my way for each patch. but all ways come back.

Thanks Gruntt - I may have a wee rant in this video but I love this bloody game so much and hope folks realise its constructive feedback and not a moaning video.

Yep, I agree with every point you made. Great video.

But it does make me wonder if this is the kinda thing the devs are talking about when they mention balancing in beta. Because I find it hard to believe that this is how they want the loot to be for the full-release.

Also, about the heli crashing. This is something Hicks said when asked about the same thing: "The way they work right now is essentially just creating the wreck. Initially we had ripped out any form of support for creating an actual flying craft with pilot AI that would fly a bit and then crash - we've looked at changing the way this operates in the future. I'd very much like to have the event created as a flying craft that eventually crashes, we'll see if we can get that done sometime before launch."

The CLE obviously has many iterations to go and we will probably see many changes to it both pre and post beta.  I'm broadly happy with the general progress of the CLE, my main gripe is how key "DayZ" assets never get explored or looted due to the benefit/time ratio of looting these large structures (Rify/High School etc).

Interesting statement from Hicks on the chopper scenario.  For a long time Ive been hearing the devs say they dont intend to have any AI controlled vehicles or scripted things like choppers crashing.  Makes me happy to see they might be thinking about changing that viewpoint.  Things like an actual heli crashing would bring much needed life to the game.

Well if they don't, modders will. It is just depending on what tools are given to us, and how much we can bend the game.

I wholeheartedly agree with the notion of using the interesting landmarks of Chernarus (like Riffy) to attract players with good loot.  I'm hoping that the improved loot situation at Skalisty Island is a preview of this.  Loot regions are fine, but have some spotty areas anywhere on the map where you can hope to find something unexpected.  The small military camps are very cool for this, and other landmarks like Riffy, prison Island, the towers in Novo/Cherno, Green Mountain, etc. could be used for this as well.

I get ranty too when I talk about the CLE, but I still have hope that they will figure out how to leverage it to make looting anywhere on the map feel worthwhile and unpredictable.

I'm hoping that they still plan to do a massive amount of work to the CLE.  The devs said they were pushing out the mini military camps to allow them to finalise the CLE.  I hope that doesn't just simply mean painting the regional control loot areas, and actually means fixing all the problems with it
