Is there any hope left? Please tell there is!

Recommended Posts

I have a long history of supporting BI.. form Arma1 initial release... I got into the dayz mod, purchased Dayz standalone on release. I have always been positive about its future.  I don't play presently, last gave it a try December 2015, I've been waiting for some tangible progress.  I've reached my limit of faith in the team.  The time in development, the sales and revenue generated.. seriously WTF is going on.  Can anyone convince me there is any hope left?  I wanna believe, i'm NO hater!!

To me it just seems like EA games just aren't right for you. Go play something else til DayZ gets finished.

Oh man you really didnt do yourself a favor by cutting into that...^^

You are about to be teached that the development of a game is a very complicated and long lasting task and that you have no idea what you are even talking about (I do tho!)

Also you AGREED yourself to test the alpha wich is in no way a finished product so how can you even dare to expect the game to change over a period of 2 -3 years?!? (insert list of useless pseudo features here) <--- PROGRESS!!1

Also its not like DayZ has a big budget or anything along those lines , i mean the next closest thing should be star citizen and those guys arent doing like 20-50 times of the progress dayZ does in the same time.

So i really cant understand why you are so impatient .

A good healthy relationship with a finished product game is the perfect cure for Alpha Gaming blues. <3

After 0.60 things will speed up, I think. If not, don't be disappointed. However, 0.59 isn't a bad version of the game. I just think nobody imagined we'd play it for that long. We had camps for weeks and months and it's been fun for me. Though I needed a break too and so did my friends - but we're back at it now and our camp's still here. Great!

A lot of programming that has been done or is WIP can only be integrated after the new renderer, so there is reason to hope. And as much as the bugs piss me off, there often are workarounds. The cars have added some dynamics to the map.  I'm trying to interact more with others and plan road barriers and attempt trading. It's not perfect, but in 0.59 you can find stuff to do, if you go looking.

I bet you a 100€ that the next patch will take longer than this one that brought us great new weather stuff and base renderers.

I dont know if anyone noticed but the rate of patches is constantly decreasing over time.

It really shouldn't take longer or even that long. All systems: the zombie/horde AI, character controller, infected inventory, base-building, etc. have all been coded completely or two a point where they can be integrated quickly. Unless some major interaction bugs between the different system prevents them from functioning this should all be added gradually over the course of the next months. After all, the renderer was the main programming work and transitioning all files is a boring task. But now the programmers can reap the fruits of their labors and start messing with all those new systems. They will want to test what they have. Most likely we'll see updates with one or the other system active for testing and only at the end of it all everything will be put to work together.

Thanks for providing a small top up of my faith.  I wont be holding my breath... but i won't give up entirely either.

Has the team dared give any kind indication of when the game 'might' be finished by.  I know, I know.. but after so long it has to be asked. :/

Please stay on topic and refrain from passive aggressive posts, they have no place on these forums.

I realise this topic is bound to attract pointless rants, but at least try to have a civilised discussion.

Thanks

I am probably naive and dumb (eh) but - what is wrong with playing the game the way it is now?
Why is everyone looking for some perfect future state? future perfection does not exist. This is the perennial (everlasting) myth of human history .. oh yes

I enjoy the game, AND people make comments and suggestions and discuss stuff, and I also enjoy watching the game develop.
This makes it even more interesting -  it makes no difference if changes come fast or slow. When it is finalized and published in the Collector's Boxed Edition it will not change anymore, and so it will be that much less interesting.

Everyone knows what happens to games. When they are complete they are played for a year or three, then dropped. People move on to the next game.
So why not enjoy it now .. DayZ is a pretty damn good game, right?

 :)

it really seems like you aren't made for playing EA games, at least not games that are so early in development like DayZ, it just takes time, normal games take a lot of time to develop as well, just forget about DayZ and be suprised in 2 or 3 years that it's finished and explore Chernarus again

Not expecting it to be perfect but we are a mile away from where we expected to be 3 years ago.  Its just not a survival game, its just a walking loot collecting sim.  Its got boring.

Any keen gamer these days is well used to playing EA / alpha / beta games.  I'm no different.  I can't think of a game over the last few years that hasn't gone down this road that I've played.  Other EA games show real timely progress, many of them on tiny budgets, Dayz on the other hand, with millions of sales, based on a solid concept mod, from the same base engine has consistently show glacial development pace.  Go and look at the reviews on Steam recently, they are ALL brutal.. do you think we are all simply 'not made for EA games'?   I'm really not sure what the problem is in BIs studio, but there IS something wrong.

There was so much good will and potential after the mod that has just been squandered over the last few years, such a shame.

he is dead serious.

Play other games, this will drive you nuts.

Keep your mind active until we all hear more, right now i believe .60 is on hush mode and nothing as for information is being released. So like you, we are as much in the dark about when it will hit stable with more items.

Now we all could eat our words and everything like base building could be added to the new render engine, and vehicles. Who knows until we get there.

Hello there

Unfortunately Early Access games are not for everyone.

Ive bough into several and sometimes think "Arrrgh if i had that cash I spent on XYZ game I could buy this finished game ABC now, you silly horse!"

So, I do understand people's concern...to a degree...

But even though I might kick myself about ocasionally I am aware what im buying into with a game like "Star Citizen" for example (i mention this as it was previously alluded to).

I see these games as an "investment" for future playtime. My PC isnt even capable of handling SC yet.

The issue I think DAYZ has had is that its been far too playable and folk think that as a mechanic is ingame it can only be impproved on and added to, whereas this really isnt the case.

The devs *could* have given us a Mod 2.0 and many of us *would* have been happy but because they are a good team they thought in a larger long term scale and im glad they did, it *will* take time, people *will* stop playing, there *will* be claims of "cash grab","lazy/incompetant devs","Illuminati Lizard base in New Zeland" etc ad nauseum but I bet you come full release folk will be singing a very different song.

Will the game be perfect? Probably not, no game is. Will it be epic. I really do think so.

And like the Arma series (and especially like A3) DAYZ will continue to improvce over time.

So, OP, shoul you loose faith? Well, thats up to you, but I bet you'll be giggling like a giggly thing once the full working game gets into your paws.

Yes

Perhaps this is because BI makes specialist minority appeal games - but now they have a mass market game and they do not have the structure or the tradition needed to deal with the mass market.
Look at the marketing effort - and cost - of any other AAA game.
An example - outside the gaming world but high profile and easy to understand - Disney spent 30% of the total film budget on marketing (hype) for Star Wars VII. This is a standard approach.
The content of a product is "ok/fairly important" but your pitch and you target are much MORE important. The sales and the public feeling about a game depend 98% on how much you pay for advertising, NOT on what is in the game.
I'm certain we would be happier with regular full page ads and plenty of internet hype paid for by BI, under full-time professional PR direction, and a gag on the comment from technical staff - who normally have zero understanding of marketing at all.

= IMO :)

A pro PR team could have deliberately continued the Mod "good feeling" right up to to the present day. This is what PR is for.

You seem to not understand what you've bought or what is going on. Wait for the finished game or go play some other survivalist games meanwhile.

So many things are happening now that perhaps should have been done much earlier. Renderer, player controller, sound etc. These things will not be finished for quite a while but will not change the core of the game or what it is, If you cant enjoy the game as it is now, there is not a lot that says that you will enjoy the finished product.

Actually, i have some problems understanding what people complaining about the game really believe that it will be. Have you not played Dayz before? The game is and has always been about looting and gearing up your character while avoiding to be killed byt the environment, zeds and other players. All of these things have already been in the game in one fashion or another. There is nothing more to these aspects than balance. More and more dangerous zombies, Weather conditions that actually make a difference, scarcity of food and more Kos-ing assholes.

The base building is something that people seem to build a lot into but I dont see it changing the game very much. I havent even built my first base yet as its too much hassle for just getting it stolen. I built a small base in ARK but someone ruined it and stole all my stuff. A lot of hard work wasted. Its just not worth it.

I both get your points.. but from where he's standing (madtommy) I can also understand... lets just look at some numbers and recent events..

average price DayZ standalone: 20-25 USD
total sales: 3.2 million or something (last I checked)
3.200000x25=80.000.000 USD
years of dev: 2 years 3 months!
thats about 40.000,000/year:25 =1.6 million (if dayz has 25 people working on it)
so all in all... if you cut the costs of dev. equipment etc.
all the promo's their doing/trips with jets and such

you're still looking at a game with over 40 weapons (half arent even used)
a game not yet optimized in the most basic of things.

52 weeks in a year
45 workable weeks (weekends/holidays)
-10 weeks of promotion at various game events
leaves 35 weeks.
35:4=8.75 months

about 1 major update every 3 months (yes that's about the speed their working on a full patch atm *0.59-0.60*)

so thats 8.75:3=2.9 (so 3 for the round off) 3 updates per year...

full game is 1.0 (brian hicks told us so)

so that leaves 40 patches until 1.0

thats 3 patches every year (at current speed!)
40:3=13 YEARS to finish dayz at current rate... lets say bohemia finally gives them a burner for being slow..
that it'll still take 6-7 YEARS before finishing this game... (brian hicks also said) AFTER 1.0.. we'll support dayz for another 5 years... so thats 13 years in total.. there is NO way.. a game like dayz takes 13 YEARS to fully develop. NO way

I don't know how long you've been playing dayz.. but even our great friend dean hall.... didn't say anything more then 'we hope or maybe' so NO there's at no point any mention of 'we might finish dayz standalone alpha in dec. 2016.. or jan 2017... they can't say anything related to when its finished otherwise their going to be spat out by the entire community for making promises they can't keep... right now their just saying 'we're hoping to finish update 0.60 AROUND march (so beginning/end of march) bt their just 'hoping' so nothing can be pinned on the devs for 'hoping somethings done'

Tommy!

You should follow the status reports, closely.

Never mind the current state of the SA, really.

Relax and read and once you start hearing news of features and changes that make the game closer to what you desire, maybe fire it up for a trial run.

I do not fault anyone for putting DayZ down and I even consider the "wait and see crowd" to be some o the smartest gamers/consumers.

One day the faithful will be called up to heavenly, frame rich Chernarus, teeming with dangerous EVERYTHING.

Now say 10 Hail Rockets, and self flagellate with a controller cord.

Hello there

Extrapolation is a very dangerous way to play with figures and more often than not will have one's face and an an egg in perfect alignment.

We have roughly another year to go of development.

That's it.

Yeah, im sure *something* will happen to push back the date a little, but that happens all the time, but apart from an "act of God", thats roughly when we will see 1.0

And it will be done.

It might not have everything *we* want in it or what everyone*expects*, (much like Arma 3) but as has been said (and again like Arma3) suppoert is slated to go on for some time after release where I bet a tonne more stuff is added.

I understand how you've come up with your conclusion but the real world just doesnt work like that.

Seriously, this is the silliest time to give up hope. A year ago? Still not really just justified, but I could understand it. Post 1.0 if you were to realize DayZ isn't the game you thought it was? Sure. I can understand that one too. Right on the cusp (literally any day now) of some of the biggest and most dramatic improvements DayZ SA has ever received? I don't get it. Just seems like "if you waited this long...", you know?

Total non-sequiter about avoiding DayZ  base building because of what happened in another game.  I'm not telling you how to play the game, but I'm actively using my early access time to familiarize myself with the base building mechanics, viable location testing, and moving large amounts of loot in an efficient manner.  But then again, to each his own, you seem like a survivalist at the core, where my main goal is logistics, with hunting and fishing as an opportunistic endeavor.

The only complaint (more like a little annoyance) against the game i have right now, is the frame rate inside towns.  That is by far, the biggest problem i have. If the frame rate was fixed right now, i wouldn't mind playing .59 for another 6 months. just my 2cents
