This is, by far, the best, most well explained reason I have heard to date. I see your point, even as anti-kos as I am, because I too, have had points where i was tired of getting stabbed in the back and went on KoS stints, still returning to my roots as a " hero " type player, because thats how I mostly have my fun, granted your is a little easier to do. :P

Beans for you, Sir!

Hahaha you know, as much as I try to be neutral and antisocial without engaging others in the game much, I can admit to having that same thrill when you take on others. That crazy excitement is probably the longest lasting and jolting emotion you can gain from this game as of right now, except boredom. I like your take and honesty about why you murder xD Very enjoyable video man.

I think you three guys have just agreed to kill each other as soon as possible, right?

Believe me or not, but I actually agree, and I can actually respect you as a KoSer, mainly because you outright admit that you do it because you are bored and there is nothing else to do. I understand, and agree

Rather obviously, I am one of the players waiting, with bated breath, for actual survival mechanics, loot rarity, an actual fucking challenge to the game, but until we get to that point, the only thing this game is good for is serving as a poorly optimized deathmatch taking place on a map that is far, far too large for that purpose. And .... I'll admit it, when I come across players now in-game, chances are pretty high that I am just going to wax you off hand, unless you make it really worth my time not to.

Like you, I was originally friendly, trying to talk to people and holding people up. But, as a result of getting both fist-charged by bambis for no reason, and getting executed whenever I do surrender, and getting trash-talked during both instances, I just plain stopped giving a shit. Unlike you, I got, and get, bored with Day Z as a result. I have much better games in my library for getting my pickle tickled via schadenfreude.

In all honesty, I am not even all that against KoS. I just want it to happen for an actual reason. Like, " that guy is sick, we need to prevent exposure", or "those bandits are attacking our trade caravans, lets round up some sturdy boys and send em off", or "those guys over in the next valley have some nice stuff, including an actual working water well. Lets sneak over and see if we can't nab some, or failing that, break it!". Instead of the current "punch-out YOLO Bambi"/ "Assnugget killing said Bambi"/"torture-porn-light" shennanigans that makes Day Z so "famous" around the net.

But, again, I can actually empathize and agree with your points. At least, better than I can " I am RPing a Pyscopath!!!!11111!!!!" bullshit.

Only if they don't see you first it would seem.

tl;dr

easily bored, lacks imagination, without direction defaults to aggression

(devs, you could use this guy to remodel zombie ai, or the aggressive animals when they come out)

Rags, I respect you a lot, and this just adds up to it. I don't KoS, and do not really share this style of playing, but your honesty and personal reasons why you do it gives you credit.

Pretty cool video by the way, love your reactions.

That being said, going to the coast to kill fresh spawns isn't really thrilling to me... at all...

In, now 1700 hours +, I only killed maybe 20 players total, and this included some PVP events and old clan matches. Not part of any clan anymore, has it's not my thing anymore.

That being said, the "don't thrust people in DayZ" isn't really something we should spread, as again, in all the time I played, I only been "betrayed" a few times, and met at least 100+ players.

Maybe it's just my "aura" transpiring on my character. Again, maybe it's because I mostly play on experimental, and the community there is a bit different than on stable full pop pvp squeaker madness.   ;)

Cheers Rags, and happy new year!!

Edit: Small detail, when you get shot at first, you retaliate and defend yourself, and end up killing your opponents, that doesn't count as KoS.  B) And even though DayZ is super easy right now, it's still a survival game. If not, than no games are survival games, as I have zero problems surviving in ANY survival game, period.

People who have a problem with KOS are making the mistake of caring about the motivation of the people doing it.  People in this thread are saying they respect his honesty and he's not as bad as those "other" KOSers, but what's the difference of the result?  (note: I KOS)

If you're going to hate KOS because you assume the people doing it are just being assholes or whatever then why not just pretend they were doing it for a purpose since you're already making up shit in your heads.  This guy explained himself, 99% of KOSers aren't going to yet people still want to demonize it because they're too caught up worrying about the motivation.

PVP is fun.  If you don't have fun with pvp you're playing the wrong game I'm afraid.  And no it's not going to change drastically enough where pvp takes a back seat, this isn't that "survival" game.

I liked your video. I don't KoS myself as I think it ruins the game but I appreciate the effort to explain.

I PVP a lot on this game. Its the most challenging and exciting thing about it and I haven't found a game that beats the feeling. But Kos Isn't that. KoS doesn't pose a challenge at all. You see a person and he doesn't see you, so you shoot him. Because its fun. The person doesn't get a chance to defend himself, mostly he doesnt even see his assailant and often he doesnt even know hes been shot. But for one of the two persons its fun. Imagine behaving like this in life. You wouldn't have a lot of friends. KoS has its role to play I guess but as I said I just don't see the challenge or the fun in it. But some people think its fun to kick puppies or torment smaller kids at school too and I dont get that either.

Cooooooool Vid Rags, in the Mod days I use to head to the PvP Servers and take all my aggression out there. But this is the Very Essence of this game, is that thrill of knowing you can be DEAD at any second, and personally I would rather be KOS rather than the whole Backstabbing kill you when your not looking type. We all know we need people who KOS otherwise the game would be pretty normal, Plus I love to Hunt people that KOS, nothing like heading back for a bit of Revenge. That's what makes my DayZ

All the guys complaining about KoS: Would you shoot if this would be a real apocalypse?

Most would because you can't trust anyone you don't know.

Why do you rage about backstabbing? "Meh he couldn't defend himself" You saw him first, took the advantage, got his loot. What's wrong with that? If he would see you first he would most likely kill you.

And for this 1.900 hour comparison.

I got around 500 hours, most of the time full military equipped with high tier weapons and wandering around north with my mates. We are all on of these that ruin the game. Died we die so far from backstabbing? Yes. Do we complain about it in the forums? Nope.

I got around 30+ kills with my last public character without one real firefight, because we shot em in their heads.

I admit I really ruin the game, like all other KoS scrubs.

Good stuff!  I do not normally watch such long videos, but I watched this in its entirety and I like your view(s).  I also particularly enjoyed:

13:20 - The shit talking, lol
25:00 - How the hell did you survive that?  Those guys had to either have terrible timing or terrible aim.  Regardless, it was fun to watch.

Not at all:

Having gangs of real psychopaths in DayZ is great

It is is MUCH MORE interesting than having computer generated psychopaths wandering around in the game.

thanks for all your effort .freak

Its nice to see support for the stuff we do to ruin the community.

Questerday we saw  two some semi-equipped guys. Shot em in the legs so they could not run away. We handcuffed them and put a burlap sack on one of their heads. Then i got out my baseball bat with nails attached and punched the guy with the burlap sack on his head to death, while his friend was watching. After this we i cut his friend up and we made a nice campfire, just to forcefeed him with his friend.

We took him to the next nearby police station and locked him in the police jail, with a burlap sack on his head. After this we locked all other doors, except one and shoot to get all the zombies of the town into the police station. We locked the main door, and left him there, with all the zombies around him.

What a nice day...

The only difference with current patch is that you actually have more to benefit if you try and take the person down without KOSing. The frequency of glitching that happen right now on slight inclines that makes looting a body impossible - should be a great incentive to not KOS....if possible.

Btw this is what happened last time someone tried to KOS me as a bambie >_>
