How was your Day(Z)?

Recommended Posts

We had to take our blue armbands off the last couple of nights and I apologize to anyone who got caught up in the Helper Skelter Mayhem. Freshie death matches between strangers at midnight in a ring of locked doors and a road flare introduced us to the macabre sensuality of the unbridled randomness in the game...

Our group did some horrible things, but the game rendered it all beautifully. Such a paradoxical experience...

For our sins:

23mxyf.png

Fortunately, we're still predominantly a force for good- and good things ARE still happening. Though we're not interested in just rolling with random strangers we're not afraid to escort them to the water well and provide them with some supplies... not that it's hard to survive but for people who are literally just "unboxing" the game for the first time we still like to preserve the illusion that it is hard. In hindsight and I've said this before, my favourite time in the game was also the most frustrating... the time I was lost with no bearings and literally just struggling to function.

That initial sense of hopelessness springboarded me through the past 2000+ hours of playing the game... so it seems that through the chaos of DayZ development the Devs did, in fact, reel a few of us in. So we try, in part, to recreate that for those we encounter. It can be fun sometimes- if we let it be.

I have still encountered a few people over the past few sessions who were happy to KoS... a couple had a weird similarity and I'm curious if anyone else has noticed this:

A guy dressed all in red- with a red motorcycle helmet on as well- had been involved in some exchange of gunfire earlier... I'd watched him from cover and he was up to something but it was hard to tell what. A bit later I noticed him again working his way towards the docks in Svet where I was. I was in a full blue "soft" motif going with a blue tracksuit and blue beanie and a blue drybag- with white converse high tops. The blue drybag had a SDK-5 and an FX... so I was ready for a fight but had hoped for something a bit more spontaneous. I wasn't sure if he saw me at first but as I tried to find cover again he kept tracking on me...

I wanted to buy some time but as I ducked and weaved around I agro'd a zombie... which under routine circumstances is no big deal. Draw the knife, pull back in a defense position... let the zob take 2 swipes then attack rapidly until it "dies." I lock horns with the zob this time and it's taking more time than usual to get it down- which is fine. But as I'm doing it the guy in red comes around the corner and is standing off at a distance... like 20 feet away. I see him making punching movements- but I don't see anything in his hands.

You are dead.

A couple days later I'm jogging down the street looking for someone spotted by our overwatch... unsure of him since I'd heard he had gear, longs on his back and a motorcycle helmet on. I'm baiting as a fresh-ish again with my stock clothing, shoes... but with a civilian bag (which of course can mean anything) and not being sneaky. I'm just out running in the middle of the street looking for this dude to try and make contact and figure out his intentions.

I ran past one of the open workshops in the row houses across from the police station when I see a dude standing inside who fit the description of the guy I was looking for. He starts making punching motions similar to the last guy- so I just think he's just motioning for me to carry on and he doesn't want to talk. Except while he's doing the punching motion bullets are cracking past me... One of our gunfighters eventually chopped him up.

Maybe I was just seeing things but it struck me as extremely weird to have such similar occurrences- appearing to just be guys punching the air but yet result in getting shot at.

Anyone else see anything like that and just write it off as an illusion?

Had funny adventure the other day, luckily no one seen me running around. My pant got damaged in an encounter with wolfs, I managed to drag them to zeds and escape but my pant got damaged and I started to look for replacement, since I was not too far from Troitskoe base, I decided to pay a visit, I was fully equiped, ak with scope, nv scope, a .45 and smg ready, enough ammo for all and enough food and water and my goal was only new pants. started looting north of the base, nothing available, reaching south base I see some commotion near the main building, zeds, wolf and through scope I see a survivor in the building, I did not want to fight so I stayed far enough. After a while the guy came out of the building toward the tents and started visiting them, I let him do, since he was well equiped I did not want a fight but was ready in case.  At some point he see me and shot at me without second tought, I returned fire and he drop dead. Of course the commotion attracted all the zeds in the area, but they were not match to my AK. I approach the dead guy and look at his inventory, nothing I realy needed, he had a M4, me a AK so different ammo, took some food and wanted to get his pants. That's when server went down or my connection dropped .....    Ok, log back in, of course body is gone, so I look in the tents, visit the main building and still no replacement pants. Then I realise that my pants are now ruined, they probably were further damaged when the guy shoot at me. Since I had a sewing kit I though I may repair them (should have done it before they where ruined but did not think about it) removed the pant tried to repair did not work, ok, put pants back on, nope can't put them back on.  Now I am almost buck naked in the wood 🙂   hoping I would meet no one.   Took me one hour of looting around north of the map to finally get my hand on decent military cargo pants, funny feeling in these moments that the game know what you are looking for and take a point not to spawn it for you.

Love this game, I like the constant threat, the randomness of the looting and overall the atmosphere, I now have 3 char on 3 differents servers, one on official servers, one on Trump wall and one on a MGDAYZ server.

The one on official (the one that lost his pants in my previous post) is fully geared, AK with scope, NV scope, USG 45, 45 pistol and plenty of ammo, well fed and rather bored now. I am scouring area I never dare to go before like western part of the map, now near Tisy mil base, 1st time there, then I plan to go near Airport and get into some PvP at least.  So far only one kill with that char, and not one I specially wanted. Would like to try annoying bandits and snipers (will probably end dead myself early on, but that's the game).

The one on Trump Wall had some nice start, 1st spawn was near boat at Rify, never been there before so I was delighted, got fun checking that cargo and got lot of gear, then went north to visit Svetloyarsk, got killed (I guess by another player) near the military tents on the road north west of town, but never heard a shot, just suddenly I am dead. Re-spawn near Elektro, I go visit the church on the hill, what a mess in there, 5+ bodies, must have just happened, as I was fresh spawn I did not have anything to loose so I raided their body when a girl entered the church and try to contact me, but I have no mic and actually did not even know what key was for chat (noob..., I looked, now I know), I looked to see if she was threatening but she seems ok, I left and followed the road to Topolka Dam, got killed like before, when getting close to the mil tents, just dead, no sound.  Re-spawn at Solnechiy, went west a bit then north near Gozdno, and decided to visit Altar for the traders (my first encounter, note to self when selling a magazine it not alway take the empty one...), got quite a few guns I don't need that I can sell, that got me food, silencer and scope, easy to gear up in that server. Left my char in Altar, well equipped now need to see how to leave without being KoS once outside perimeter.

My char on MGDAYZ got different experience, first spawn was going well for the first 10min then I got shot at from a hunter stand, on the way to Pusta,  bad shooter 🙂 I got away, got Kos'ed near Staroye, respawn near Svet in the north so  I decided to visit Krasnotav airstrip, I was relatively fresh spawn, no hand gun or rifle, just my fire axe, while visiting the south building I see someone running in from west, so I tries to get out of town before he see me, of course he see me, and shoot at me from the distance, I managed to leave.  Apparently KoS is also in play in that server, got killed on sight near Svergino. Re-spawn near Quarry, decided to go to Msta and visit the mil camp north of Staroye, on the way (wont say where) found a tent covered with cammo, well hidden, lot of ammo, and magazines, I only took a bit of food and a gun cleaning kit as I know the mil camp at Staroye has usually damaged equipment. Managed to gear up at the mil camp, went notrh to Shakhovka and headed West. Had an encounter near Guglovo, visited the farm hangar north west of town, and when I enter there was a guy crouched pointing a gun at me, since I have been KoS a few time I let my MP5 speak first, killed him before he can shoot. Now I am the KoS a..hole 😞 I need to get a mic, if I had one I could have back up from the door and tried to speak and reason him, well that wont be the first or last time he will die. Anyway not much to loot from him apart from food which I was low on. Finally got KoS'd (Karma...) in the camp with hospital south of Novy Sobor, I stupidly attracted a Zed and got him with my axe, then left and moved to my MP5 and run into a Zed in the bushes, shot him, which attracted a couple more, while finishing them off, I heard a bam from the other side of the road, second Bam, "you are dead"....  Well, re.spawn at Solnechiy (I seems to re-spawn a lot there), went straight to the water well, when I was drinking a guy got close,  say hello and also started to drink... I say hello (got a mic yesterday finally) finished drinking and left in a hurry, the guy had some kind of mask and that kind of register as trouble in my mind... Now first time in a long time,  I think I will starve to death, cant find any food, went to Dolina, Orvolets, Berezino orchard, in-town, nada, got a pump action gun lot of ammo and a sks with full ammo but not a bite, left my character north on Berezino will see if I have more chance later but I dont expect miracle.

All in all what I do like in this game is the few intense moments, it can be boring at time. Love it for the moment and did not encounter any bugs that I can call show-stopper for me. Playing with a highend machine so it's on full graphic and it's lovely. Hate night and de-spawn when it get too dark, they need to work on that a little, I like to role play but spending hours sitting around a fire is not my cup of tea.

Actually when I re logged today, got quite a few plum around north of town, and could survive and looted a few can on the way West. I had a sad ending in Dichina mil base, I was looting peacefully the base when I open a barrack door, there was about 6 zeds in there, I closed the door but they got out, managed to hide a bit in another barrack and escaped, when I reach the base wall someone spoke to me asking if I was friendly, I said yes but followed by zed, the guy say we are 3 come the other side we help you. Which I did at the time I had only my hatchet in hand, they shooted at the zeds but I got attacked still so I start to run then draw my sks and shoot at zeds too. Then lowered my sks, that's when one of the guy shoot me.  I went unconcious said in the mic that it was not necessary to shoot, then he finished me.  Don't know maybe I hit one guy when shooting at zeds ? but dont think so I was carefull to shoot away from them. How to trust peoples ? I dont expect all 3 of them where aggro, only one. Well I will give it a try and still try to be friendly and give some peoples trust because that's how I envision the game. Apart from the obvious PVP area peoples should talk first, shoot later.

Re-spawned at lumber mill, few bambis body's around, gladly looted their food and drink and went away, could hear rifle shoots near by. Another thing I don't understand, fresh spawn killing....

To whoever shoot at me at Troiskoe mil base when I was not threatening, hope you get lesson learned, shooting attract Zombies 🤩 and next time make sure to kill me,  because yes I emptied my fx-45 magazine on you when you where running away from that Zed horde because you shoot me first, any other time I would have targeted Zeds. Then they aggroed on me when you died but managed to get up one of these guard post and after a while they lost interest. Thanks for the bacon cans I got when I looted your corpse.

I have the impression that Zombies aggro more easily since about 1-2 weeks, there was a patch on my Steam install last weekend and since then, I aggro zeds lot more frequently than before.

dont know but could be . . . sometimes its almost like they see me . . .  they stop, look in my direction and start heading my way. Even when I am travelling quiet. They also seem harder to put down. It used to be one shot to the chest or head to put them down. Now it seems like three to the chest (still one to the head).

Last night was followed by wolves (far from a marked wolf spawn zone), watched a wolf put down over 9 zombies with no apparent damage. Five of the zombies were not dead but still, surely some damage must have accumulated to the wolf? I shot the wolf and then had the five zombies crawl after me . .. .

I killed three wolves, and they seemed to dissipate. Is Dayz wiki correct then that kill three and they leave, Or do people have other experiences?

thanks for the welcome . . current "life" is ok . . found two badly damaged guns (45's), now looking for tape or a gun cleaning kit. My usual early finds (skorpion / IJ70) are doing me ok though. I prefer the 45's as I find more of that ammo . .. .

All of our group has said the same thing. Not sure what detection threshold changed or if they all did. Seems more RNG based now...

I ran into a random guy in a building who thanked me for not killing him.  maybe I was the first person in a while that didn't shoot at him, I dunno.  he liked my helmet so I gave it to him.

Things have been busy with the Helpy Helpers recently as we shaved off our PVE beards, parked our base initiative and decided it was time to go do some serious Helpy Helpering. We headed to a busy server and leaned into things.

Within minutes of our last hop we ran into character on the southeast end of Svet- our long term playground. That quickly changed as another character, unknown to the first, was also in the immediate area. Bam and I were geared up but both of these players caught onto the fact they were safe with us very quickly... probably because they were still alive.

"I just encountered someone by Berezino who lured me over with a map and asked if I wanted help... then he shot at me."

"That's exactly the type of person we're here to deal with..." As if on cue there were several gunshots nearby- but to the West. "Time to go- here's some water!"

I dropped a bottle of water for them more as a gesture than because they really needed it. I realized later the shots had happened somewhere totally different than where the reported problem occurred... so we did miss out on the chance to go deal with the guy with the map. We did, however encounter the shooter over at the tents west of Svet- he graciously accepted our all expenses paid one way trip to the beach.

On our return to Svet we ran into another character who was up for letting things play out. We provided him with some essential gear and escorted him to the water fountain. He was settled into a drinking cycle and casually chatting with us when I heard a zombie agro...

"I can hear zombies attacking someone over here... I'll go check it out."

"Time for you to scram little buddy." I took the guy out onto another street and pointed him to the west where he wanted to continue to gear up.

"Contact! I have a guy here in one of the rooms-" Gunshots... "He's shooting at me!"

"Coming!" More shots-

"Got him- one down!"

Zombies were everywhere running in and out of buildings, across the street... I thought for a second I'd missed an announcement for a NKOB concert for all 5 of their living fans.

I came around the corner through a fence and saw one zombie run in, another ran out and Bam wasn't far behind. I then stupidly barged in and plugged the door so he couldn't leave... we were all just running in place. Bam hit a vacuum pose and squeezed past while I headed in further thinking he'd been injured by someone in the room at the end of the hall. There was nobody there...

"There's another guy out here!"

Holy fuck already.

I rushed back out and Bam was shooting to my right... at Zombies but then another guy flashed past me with a shotgun in his hands shooting towards Bam so I mag dumped on him and reloaded. The guy was down. I kept shooting at zombies-

"Did you get the guy out in the street?"

"What guy? No, I've got a guy here by the water fountain with the motorcycle helmet on."

The last guy never did show back up again.

Next contact was at Olsha and we responded to some gunfire up there. Those guys didn't want to play things out so Bond (Called B before) engaged from a distance but hit one guy and missed the second. We were closing on Olsha coming from Svet- for reasons I'm not 100% sure about I ended up closing on the small shed on the north side of the long barn there, confirmed the guy was in there then figured I could just hose him down from outside.

I couldn't. He daintily walked out the door and filled my cheeks with lead. My "loud" character which has survived for the past month or so- was dead.

Bam didn't waste any time sprinting right up to the door with his M4 drawn and held the trigger down as 5.56 tap danced through the soul of my killer.

I dropped about 10 characters outside of Cherno / Elektro / Sol before I finally got a spawn near Svet. Fortunately Bam and Bond were able to collect a majority of my gear so I could get back in action. Missing a few items- of note a tactical helmet and my red athletic sunglasses...

Hard times...

I got my loud guy sorted out and our group spread out a little bit to pass the time. Bond and Chili went on an adventure the the west which resulted in some interesting finds- including a very substantial base south of Tisy which was respectfully raided for some convenience items. We posted an "all hands" message to go back and pick our teeth on the remaining inventory but by the next day it was reportedly being emptied.

"Not sure if someone else found it or if they're busy moving locations... but much of the inventory is gone."

We did run into a couple other bases closer to home- a little too close. We put our Helper Skelter caps on long enough to place several mines around the more substantial offending base just to help keep them on their toes while we kept our eyes on a couple of other small plots.

One member reported that the military tent that Bam and I found in Smirnovo had been moved out of the garage (we'd had a firefight there a couple weeks back) but had then been placed semi glitched into a hill next to the road slightly west of its original location. We were licking our chops at the prospect of dragging the military tent back for our own purposes and I met up with Chili on location to pack the tent up and start the long trek back to our base with it. It was also intended to be a bit of an "F U" to the guy who ambushed us. Don't get me wrong- someone defending his own property is expected... but F U all the same.

I emptied the tent of what I can only describe as entirely uninspiring loot (same as had been the case when we first found it) and tried to pack it but couldn't find the prompt. The back corner of the tent was glitched in terrain so I wasn't sure if that was the reason... but nothing I could do would bring up the prompt. Chili tried and also failed at which point we turned to google-machine. We found a few mentions of sweet spots and hidden loot items etc. but nothing worked. We left it in place and haven't been back to see if it's still there.

One day I returned to our base to find that the windshield of the car had been smashed... which caused me some significant concern since it meant that our base had been found and someone ostensibly crazed / smashed the windshield (car was still green) and didn't take anything in the whole camp. Wait a minute...

The next day I logged in and the windshield was fine.

1.0.

Unfortunately helping freshies out isn't always rewarding since it really isn't all that hard to survive right now. Sometimes we stumble into someone who is brand new to the game and can actually get some gratification from setting them along the right path... Some know enough about the game to lure you over to bandage them and then try to stun punch you- so of course you cut them up but you're left feeling a bit raunchy. Needless to say the routine leaves a little to be desired and guys get bored and start acting out a bit.

But there's literally nothing to do right now... base is built... car is stolen... we have everything we want.

Now what?

so today I boredom respawned (ate a bullet) and I woke up in elektro.  I'm in a building and I hear shots VERY close.  no bullet impacts near me though so I decide to investigate.  I'm come around a corner and a guy comes sprinting past me with half a dozen zombies on his tail.  as he passes he yells RUUUUUUUUUN MAAAAAN.  the zombies totally ignored me and ran right past me after him.  he shut himself up in a building and I decided to be a hero and threw myself at the zombie hoard, armed with my... plum.

dude, I tried.

Been there done that 🙂

Yesterday had not much play time,, I had a fully geared character on Trump's Wall server, that one is almost always full, so did not play it a lot lately (means 3 weeks), so I took him from Altar where he was in security and run to Berezino / Lumber mill area trying to get Bambi killers, so I was looking for trouble, found it... your dead.

Spawned in Dubky parking lot, did not know there was a spawn there.... I spawned as a fire fighter, helmet and all, that strange to me too 🙂 well I started direction Balota, made a stop on the way to fill up on water but did not loot anything, I did not expect to live long anyway, not near Balota just armed with a firefighter axe. Did not take long for someone to shoot me in the forest East of the strip.

After that I had 4 encounters, 3 non letal, spawned near Electro, after running around a little a guy approached me, and we spoke, he had a knife in hand so I was suspicious, he wanted that we play together, which I refused since I did not have enough play time to make it worthwile, I refused and he went away (what ? he did not attack ?), I then run north direction Pusta, on the way I see an orange thing in the middle of a field, I approached and it's a fresh spawn, all dressed in orange with only an axe on his back, he was crouched, I tried to contact but he must have been AFK,  so I left him (What ? I did not kill him ?)  further away I had to go AFK as I got a phone call, being on the phone I see someone approach my character on the screen, guy had gun and all, so I though ok new spawn in 1 minute, but he try to make contact and seeing I did not respond just run away, (not being killed twice today wow). Decided not to run north and take risk so I went to Cherno, was looting the water front houses, when someone show up behind me in one of the house, he say "hey buddy, how are you" and before I could respond started to attack me, I had nothing in my hand, since it was time for me to go I told him go for it kill me. I had nothing of valor anyway.   Why do you start the encounter by being friendly and calling peoples Buddy then attack ?

The more I play the less "friendly" I am, because if I wait for the other person to shoot first, then I die, I usually try to avoid confrontation, I don't shoot at someone on the back or if he did not see me, and try to leave an area if I see someone before they see me. But I am tempted to go the KOS way since it's apparently the way others play, specially on Trump Wall server.

Being the good guy definitely depends on a few things:

- spotting them first so you can be more prepared for the interaction and do it on your terms.

- typically the other person should not initially be armed...

- you should have an advantage... like a couple friends nearby.

Otherwise its very difficult to control the pace of the engagement in a friendly manner. I wouldn’t even bother on the modded servers that seem a little more anti friendly.

We learned that lesson a long time ago and unfortunately end up having to kill way more people to ensure the safety of our guys.

ran into somebody else being chased by zombies.  he ran into a house and closed the door in front of the zombies, and they were outside going ape.  this time instead of attacking the zombies, I went inside with him while they were away from the door.  he just looked at me and I waved hi.  LOL.  then I skipped over to the door and let the zombies in. 🙂    we brawled them, and after they were dead I went one way and he went the other.  neither of us a said a word.

I just spent the past two and a half real days trying to get across the map to where I had previously died because my car is there.  Along the way I had acquired a jerry can(very much needed), a couple litres of oil and a medium tent.  I had no stamina left and had to carry the tent.   I was also hungry so I knew I'll have to loot some towns a long the way.  Well, it was easier said than done.  Some places I couldn't even attempt to really loot due to all the infected around.  If I drew any attention I was done for.  So having to pick my spots to loot and battles against the infected proved to be long and grueling.

I did this for two and half days.  I finally make it to my car.  Filled her up and away I went.  I'm just driving down the highway wondering about where to set up camp when I realized I'm cutting through Vybor and heading east.  I stop at an intersection which has a left hand turn, I look in my inventory and come to terms that I need protection.  Some weapons.  I turn left down the dirt road towards the North West Airfield and ultimately, to my doom.

As soon as I entered into the southern end of the airfield, this notion came over me that I haven't been able to really open Gretchen up(Gretchen's my car).  So cut straight to the airstrip and floored it. Man, these ADA's are gutless.  Most I got up to was 118km/h.  When I finally decided I had enough fun racing up and down the airstrip, I decided to check out tent city.  I drive up there, running over a few infected that I aggroed, pulled into the tent city area, stopped the car and got out.  It seemed like I had run over most over them prior to entering because I had free reign of the first section.  Looted a bit of that but only found a replacement pants so I decided to move on to the next section.  This one is crawling with infected so I start sneaking around but as soon as I rounded a tent, I bumped into an infected.  I immediately bolted for the car.  I made it, got in but fumbled for my keys and had troubles starting the car.  Even with the door closed, I must have left the the window down as I was getting hit.  I finally got the car started and had just barely got it moving when the screen went black......  I love my car..... I miss her so much
