Due to user feedback and the sudden notoriety of this thread, I feel obligated to warn all DayZ players that the following information may in fact be incorrect or inapplicable to many of you. While this fix does work at least partially in some cases and some users have reported varying degrees of success, responses to this thread have helped us to narrow down what exactly the problem in the engine might be. I advice EVERYONE to read, at a minimum, the first page or two of this thread, if not its entirety, before deciding what your course of action will be (if any).

ORIGINAL TEMPORARY FIX FOR FPS LAG BUG

 

WARNING: This fix is temporary and somewhat dodgy and/or against the game rules and terms and conditions, and I accept no responsibility for any bad things that happen to your account/game/computer. I have tested the fix myself in multiple scenarios and have not bumped into any trouble with Steam or BattleEye as of yet, but I can't guarantee anything. I know that many people are very keen to get back into the game this weekend, and with Rocket proclaiming that a fix will not be out for days, this might be your only option.

 

HOW TO DO IT

 

1) Open your Steam library.

 

2) Right click on DayZ and select the Properties option.

 

3) Click on LOCAL FILES.

 

4) Click on Verify Integrity of Game Cache and let it do its thing. It might take a few minutes.

 

5) Once this is done, navigate to the Addons folder in the DayZ folder in your Steam folder. It will be something like:

 

...\SteamApps\common\DayZ\Addons\

 

6) Find the file:

 

weapon_attachments_textures.pbo

 

7) Make a backup of this file somewhere on your computer that is not in this folder (as a precaution).

 

8) Return to the Addons folder and rename the file to:

 

BACKUP_weapon_attachments_textures.pbobackup

 

9) Done!

 

As a result of this shoddy fix, weapon attachments (for at least the M4A1) will not be visible and magazines will look glitchy. But I figure most people will be able to live with this until Monday when Rocket speculates a permanent fix will be available.

Didn't they already add a fix for verifying that your pbos are correct? It doesn't make sense that they would verify buildings but nothing else. And if they did, someone needs to kick that programmer in the balls.

I'm not sure exactly what they have done, but I have had no problems (aside from the mentioned minor visual glitches) with this fix.

Its also to do with pre patch gear causing problems

If you guys are unsure just drop your gear and run away from it a bit and see if you get a performance increase. I was playing fine all day with zero performance issues until I picked up a fully loaded M4 with flickering textures on it, then performance slowly started to bog down within minutes.

WORKS!!! FPS IS NOW BACK TO SUPER SMOOTH!!...there is a down side and that is that fact that you wont be able to look down or through any sights while using this method,

so i have more good news....i didnt like how i couldnt use my acog or red dot so i renamed the file back to its original name and it turns out ALL THE FLICKERING IS GONE my green MP butstock and MP handgaurd are both visible and NOT flickering AND all the other flickering items i had such as soda cans have also stopped flickering, so my fps is great AND i can use my scopes

Has anyone tried this and played for 2+ hours in a row?

Cause the moment someone mentioned the thing with flickering textures, I logged in - removed all of my flickering items and then it was fine... for about 2 hours and then my fps dropped again.

Had only picked up food and sodas which I consumed on the spot so.

This didn't work for me. On either of my characters. It made my attachments look grey, but that's about it. I still slowly lagged until my game froze.

Beside the attachement and weapons going grey and shady, the game worked for i guess 5 min longer with this fix, then the memory leak happened again.

 

So this fix isn't working for me.

The only downside is if you come into the vicinity of another bugged item. I did a test run through Cherno and Elektro with random FPS drops that I found were caused by running into the vicinity of another bugged item or player carrying a bugged item themselves.

 

Predominantly bugged items:

 

1) Head Lamps

2) Weapon Attachments

 

I'll add to the list as I encounter more. Cheers.

Can't be.  I have NO weapon attachments in my inventory and nowhere near a town with items. :(

Still happening within 15 minutes.

 

EDIT:

 

Maybe Add beans to this.  I have 5 Cans of beans with ZERO textures

Going to drop them and try.

EDIT: Couldn't even get back in with them on my screen they're in a yellow protector case. 

 

EDIT: Got back in got rid of cans restarted my server so they would go away from the vicinity.  Going to play a bit to see if this does anything.

Be back in a bit!

 

No go. Didn't work like AT ALL.  Got to a horrible state quicker.

For me had to replace my ballistic helmet, shoes, pants, shirt and I noticed by Blue Mountain Backpack flickering... dropped it and ran aways, once i got so far, my FPS shot right back up to perfect, ran back to get my stuff and fps dropped too poor again. That's my fix. Oh and I dropped my acog scope on my m4 but for sure my backpack caused me issues.

I don't have this issue, but even if I did I would be extremely hesitant to mess with .pbo files as the game was recently patched precisely to prevent tampering with them. Use this fix, if it works, at your own risk because you might well end up banned by Battleye for messing with the integrity of the game files.

Only problem is your fix doesn't solve the problem. In fact the people who did this were kicked by battle eye and could be banned by VAC later. Also, the one player that I know that did get in, the issue was the same.

All this happened when the devs implemented the mini patch and not before

 

Known New Issues:

  • Animations: Right hand twitches during pointing, character twitches once when middle finger is activated/deactivated
  • Actions: If player puts burlap sack from his head to ground his vision stays black

New:

  • Animations: Ruger 10/22 hand pose
  • Animations: It's now possible to blend directly between various gesticulation states (pointing,finger,greeting...)
  • Crafting: Can repair clothes, weapons, and items using specialist items (such as sewing kit)
  • Gear: Configured sewing kit and its recipes
  • Gear: Added configuration for durable riders jacket
  • Gear: Added Cowboy hats to the loot spawns (multiple colors)
  • Gear: Added Sewing kit to the loot spawns 
  • Gear: Added B95 and 762 speedloader to loot spawns
  • Gear: Added configuration for durable riders jacket
  • Gear: Added durable leather jacket to loot spawns
  • Gestures: Thumbs Up gesture added with default F7 key binding
  • Server: Optimization of synchronization of textures/materials (minor improvement to server FPS)
  • Systems: Falling now causes dynamic damage (roughly, fall of >5m break legs depending on equipment, >15m probably death)

Fixed:

  • Actions: Could not cover another players head with a burlap sack
  • Actions: No longer spawns clones of sack after Remove Head Cover action
  • Actions: Removing Head Cover (burlap sack) while inventory is full won't leave you blind and without burlap sack anymore
  • Art: Duplicate geometry in lower resolution LODs of flannel shirt resulted in visual bug at distance.
  • Animations: Fixed an issue where the player would stay zoomed-in in sights for reload while aiming in prone
  • Animations: Player should now be force-disarmed when clapping while holding a single-handed weapon.
  • Animations: Pointing and clapping now works even when initiated from aimed states
  • Animations: Fixed an issue where the left hand would stay glued to the FNX45 for aimed prone reload
  • Animations: Default rifle aim stance (stand and crouch) slightly changed to better fit different guns
  • Animations: Twitches on right hand fixed when holding an item while middle finger and pointing.
  • Crafting: Cannot combine ruined stacked objects (such as ammo, rags)
  • Crafting: Cannot chamber/load magazine with ruined ammunition
  • Crafting: Motorbike helmet visors didn't retain their type when spray-painting the helmet
  • Crash: Game Crash when using FLUSH command
  • Crash: Out of bounds crash when no sounds defined
  • Inventory: Loot would stay on dead character after it is picked up, causing teleporting loot and general chaos
  • Medical: Cleaning wounds with alcohol tincture doesn't add last stage of infected wounds
  • Medical: Vomiting/Stuffed was completely broken. Now simplified and streamlined
  • Melee: Short melee weapons do damage now (hammer, screwdriver, hammer, hacksaw)
  • Spawns: Lowered probability of Weapon cleaning kit spawns
  • Systems: Healing system was double processing for blood regeneration
  • Systems: Notifier messages were not being cleared/reset on within-state changes
  • Systems: Players position was not saving on disconnect
  • Systems: Players could get continually stuck in a dead character during load from central server
  • Systems: Players would not receive any falling damage
  • Systems: Disconnecting dead player would delete the body after ~30 seconds
  • Systems: Damage was being equally applied to all objects inside inventory slot when shot/damaged (now items reduce the damage when they take damage)
  • Systems: Notifier gets stuck on "stuffed"
  • Weapons: Ballistic parameters of all projectiles tweaked for more realism (special thanks to Gews for his great analysis on weapon characteristics)
