    The Awesome Vehicle Thread

As has been discussed to death that is no longer accurate information. There are several but rare fully modded and fully populated servers that have few vehicle issues. I am actually looking into how these servers are configured and what kind of hardware they are running to eventually present some data to the issue. So far, the physical hardware used has ridiculous specs, 99% of servers won't run on this hardware because it is too expensive.

Players work so hard for vehicles, they just don't want to give them up even when they are faced with ridiculously horrible odds of keeping their cars in running shape. Why is it OK for the physics to be broken and kill players and progression for no reason whatsoever? Why does BI continue to allow this to occur?

Your description of the current situation regarding vehicles has earned you THE BEST QUOTE ABOUT VEHICLES IN DAYZ IN 2021 and also my beans. Spot on..... Also..... Also, I can't help but wonder if BI purposefully doesn't fix cars because of unfortunate, but funny moments like this...

Thanks for literally nothing. On my ignore list now.

I feel bad for the console plebes. You guys were snookered really bad. All that console money BI got, and THIS is the result. This thread exists, so future generations understand EXACTLY what they are getting into if they think about buying DayZ.

So is this is now just another generic shooter?

Ive said it once, I'll say it again, Official servers are for console babies and casuals. Hardcore community servers are much better. Also, if nothing else, you could at least find a vanilla Namalsk server, it will be much more difficult to survive than the official servers.

why is this game still broken?

I never said I was some authority on these issues. I have software development under my belt. I host a couple of DayZ servers, and have been talking to the major players in the modding community incessantly over the years. I have worked under several software development methodologies like SCRUM and AGILE and during my career have led a number of successful software teams. Do I know alot about game development specifically... nope. Other than the fact that I am well aware that making open world games is an absolute bitch, I do not carry any game specific development knowledge. I know what my eyes see and what modders see first hand, and what I have experienced while scripting a few things for DayZ. I bring no specific knowledge to the table; however, neither do you, nor anyone else on this forum other than the devs themselves. So before getting your finger all pointy, pointy at me, you really should consider that you also fall into the same category as everyone else here.... we are giving our opinions and subjective anecdotes. If that's problematic for you, feel free to ignore me.

    Is Battleye just crap?

That is a serious question. I don't know how the business relationship between Battleye and game companies work, but their product is pretty much crap considering the VOLUME of Anarchy and other Youtuber's videos clearly showing hackers within the game. ESP hacks are the big one. I know it's difficult, because it's used outside the game space and overlays onto the game, but it seems to me that if these Anti-Cheats were serious, they would offer a huge ass reward for anyone that shows them how to detect ESP usage. If you kill ESP in DayZ, 90 percent of the egregious hacking problems go away. There has to be a way to detect ESP being used on the local machine outside an admin mod from within the game. Why can't this be done?

    Is Battleye just crap?

Question: How do you know when your Anti-Cheat is not worth a damn? Answer: When content creators focus pretty much on catching cheaters in your game instead of making content about how wonderful your game is. There are now a couple of dozen DayZ content creators solely making videos about catching cheaters. The granddaddy that showed them the way is Anarchy. He has other gameplay videos and stuff from other games, but his bread and butter is catching cheaters in DayZ. It's really sad this is necessary and the game suffers for it. But like the current state of vehicles, BI doesn't seem to care.

    Is Battleye just crap?

Open world games area hackers paradise. Every open world game suffers from hackers unless they allow private servers, then you usually have to find a community with decent people who don't suffer from admin abuse. GTA V and RDR2 both suffer from ridiculous hacking, but with DayZ and PUBG and other shooter games, it's worse because of ESP. And moreso with DayZ because it is unforgiving and you start fresh, ESP kills player experiences especially on Official servers.

why is this game still broken?

@Girth Brooks I love DayZ, I can't stand how BI treats the community. From Flashpoint forward, it's gotten worse and worse. The apologists just conveniently don't pay attention to what BI says and then NOT do, many times the EXACT opposite. Prime example They said they would fix the desync and vehicle physics issues in 2021 with all the new staff they received. Did NOT happen. I do love this game, but the development company behind it has never figured out how to handle the community around it's IP's. DayZ always HAS potential, but like so many other BI games, it will likely never reach it. It took BI almost 8 years to get Arma 3 and it's engine in such a good state that the total conversions and other serious mods actually functioned properly. Vehicles were in really, REALLY good shape in Arma 3. But in DayZ, modders have repeatedly said that vehicles use bullet physics and that is one huge reason why they don't really act like vehicles to begin with, that, and the fact, that a deliberate change was made to make the server have authority over vehicle positions vs the client to keep hackers from abusing them. Not that hackers don't abuse nearly everything else in the game, but those vehicles won't be hacked! Nor will they be usable by the player base in some kind of consistent basis without them being modded to death. Mods don't fix the problems with vehicles, they simply cover up BI's inadequacy of you know, actually correcting them in code. I love DayZ more than ANY other BI game, and I hope BI genuinely proves me wrong, I really do, but like so many other promises and new features and on and on that they introduce and NEVER actually make stable and work properly, I fear vehicles in DayZ will follow that trend. This is what you get into when you buy a BI game. There will always be major game mechanics that neverr work right and get abandoned.

Yet more players that have spent hours gearing up only to die to the amazing car physics of this game.

No one is immune to this, it's no big deal though, it rarely happens according to BI and bunch of BI apologists around here, but not even the die hard DayZ streamers are immune to this ridiculousness. Who needs Helicopters...... indeed.

It's great to know that we have those amazing hit indicators that nobody wanted. I wonder how much time and effort was put into that vs fixing vehicles as promised in 2020 for 2021? Hmmmm.....

So here we are... 1.15, last patch of the year. Let's take a moment and review what the devs said at the end of 2020 about the upcoming year of 2021... From that post: That never happened, not even a KNOWN ATTEMPT. The most broken mechanic in the game continues to be ignored this year. So again, here is your vehicle year in review.... While I know some things internally have changed, essentially, the result is the same as the year 2012....

Sounds like someone that bought Battlefield 2042. Not making light, but that title has always been problematic when it launched, but it also serves as another example of early access is complete horse shit. Make no mistake... DayZ is considered released, but we all know it never should have been considered such. But hey..... CONSOLE MONEY! WOOHOO!

    The Awesome Vehicle Thread

Ahhhhh..... but people do as you say..... Name ANY video game ever thought of and/or actually produced where the game mechanic is when you find a vehicle, to save your ass at ANY GIVEN moment, be prepared to auto eject yourself through no fault of your own. Name one. I can only think of one where the developers thought this was a standard feature for gameplay when using vehicles. A new player does not know this by default, they expect vehicles, I don't know, to actually work like vehicles. Call me crazy, but I guess expectations were too high for normal players.

    The Awesome Vehicle Thread

That's perfectly normal. Cars are supposed to become uncontrollable at the slightest hiccup and loss of control is an expected result. Also, death and losing all your progress is perfectly fine if you are playing a non-modded server. It adds completely to the atmosphere. One life, one death, even if it's through no fault of your own and a problem caused by terrible programming changes early on in the game's development that the dev's have no idea how to fix and could possibly abandon fixing altogether in typical BI style. Best thing to do is wait. 1.16? 1.17? 1.18? I mean it's been awhile and yet, it will be longer still. We'll keep reminding them.

    Debate on hit markers

There is a very good reason I have focused on vehicles. I have been buying and playing BI games since Operation Flashpoint. BI is NOTORIOUS for half-finishing games, and even more notorious for introducing big mechanics into a game and just abandoning them, never truly fixing the issues that keep it from becoming good. I suspected the moment they changed vehicles and made them server side that it was a candidate for abandonment, and thus far, they have proven me right. Arma 3 is the only exception... it has one or two game mechanics that they actually did fix, after nearly 7 years, but they did fix them, so they get some props, but overall, we are still in "D-" territory if they had to be graded, and it's always the same. Start the smoke and mirrors with something new and shiny nobody really wants to get people to look away from the real issues within the game. And speaking of Arma 3, vehicles work amazingly well. So for them to go from great to utter and complete garbage shows just how inept their thought processes are. Just like this hitmarker stuff. In spite of the plebes stating I've hurt their feelings, there is no other reason to put in hit markers in a survival game. You just tell the player he has been hit or in shock. Also, why go through all the trouble of simulating bullet direction, sound, ricochet and all of that if you are just going to hand hold the baby and show the direction of the bullet on screen. Seems like you are wasting a ton of resources to simulate all of that only to throw a graphic up on screen telling the player where to look. It should be evident that DayZ Standalone was never meant for console. BI saw a money grab opportunity and needed to test their new "engine" on console for Arma 4 or whatever they plan to do next. So the game we all love got new guts that aren't working all that great and will likely never be fixed, or at least they won't be fixed until the game is irrelevant. I applaud BI for continuing to work on Arma 3, but the game is only relevant to a handful of people at this point compared to other titles. The same thing is happening to DayZ Standalone. It sucks, our zombie survival game is STILL the best game that defines this genre IN SPITE of how bad BI treats it. It almost seems like in their mind that just putting a handful of people on a game for 10 years is sufficient and they measure their success in keeping a couple of thousand players interested in their game for a decade or more. I don't entirely follow that logic. But again, the top company brass thinks Ylands is the best thing since sliced bread, and puts a ton of resources into it, and NOBODY plays that game.

    Debate on hit markers

It's not stalling exactly, it's catering to the Console Plebes, this has been BI's goal all along. The console guys can't figure out where they are hit from so, BI's answer is to make it like Fortnite. Keeps people complaining about something else other than their failures to make vehicles something worth using in the game. If they had kept Survivor Games and let a modder do all this stuff specifically for that game mode, then they might could have pulled off some kind of low key hardcore competitive shooter.... but they didn't, instead they've just unleashed this vomit no one asked for onto the dwindling player base in order to keep everyone from focusing on real issues. Remember, the engine switch was to get this game onto consoles, not to actually make the game better, while some things are better, there are so many real problems, they have just decided it's best if we all ignore it and look at this new mechanic that they know will piss off half of the community, namely the PC half. If they were actually interested in making the game better, cars would have been a priority. Or how about a little bit better job at alerting the player he is bleeding than a small icon, I mean, that is actually something that would improve things.
