Just had a delightful cruise in the Hummer and I must say, wow, the developers have really done it! Butter smooth operation, traction, and user experience all round. This was on a full pop server mind you. The unruly hooligans creating and circulating these hit-piece glitch videos are really being disrespectful to the developers who have worked tirelessly for years to provide a seamless driving experience to each and every DayZ player. I won't mention names because you know who you are and you know what you're doing. Anyone can intentionally produce glitch and bug propaganda if they corrupt the server config, add incompatible mods and purposely exploit rare quirks in the physics system that players will only very, very rarely encounter when playing normally. We're talking winning millions of dollars kind of rare. But hey, whatever it takes to get a little attention on the internet, right? I felt an ethical duty to speak up in defense of the wonderful developers that have done such an impeccable job with the vehicle simulation and net code in 1.19. They're being slandered in their own backyard by rioters who have yet to submit any substantive, rational claims about the state of DayZ vehicles. I've worked in the gaming industry as a vehicle specialist for multiple decades, so yeah, I really do know what I'm talking about.

Whoa, you should change your name the GaslightWarrior. The glitches are well documented and the only thing that appears to be a hit piece is your post pointing fingers at the rest of us. I've noticed from your post history that it appears to be your singular purpose to come into this forum and make glowing claims about the state of the vehicles (and chastise anyone that has a different experience). Perhaps you're just a spoof account for a dev on the vehicle team patting your own back? Or maybe you're a tool from another game here to provide false reporting about the broken state of new content? Who would know? Maybe you should spend more time on the Forza forums where stable vehicle simulation might actually be the norm.

For the record, I was pretty happy with the hummer's driving characteristics..... when it would get into gear. Often the Hummer needs to be continuously restarted to allow it to get into gear (Drive or Reverse) and it appears to have something to do with the incline of the vehicle when fully stopped. Also, getting stuck in the roof is 100% server-side, and I only play vanilla unmodded servers. These are bugs, and should be addressed. We're not here just to pat backs, and the game needs feedback, not you.

  2. It's been a while since I posted. The Hummer brought me out of retirement.

Well... maybe I was too soon. That Hummer is so bugged it was dumbfounding. It's been 9 years since I first bought this game, and I'm beyond puzzled that the devs still have the chutzpah to release content that is game-breakingly bad. The transmission issues alone are grounds for an uninstall. Multiple times I got "stuck" in the roof while trying to exit the vehicle. I don't mind irremovable, indestructible tires... but yeah. Alas, I endured and hope they can figure this out. The game's core content, including the contamination zones and general PVE difficulty have never been better, so Kudos there. One last point about the Hummer - for the love of God, the storage needs to be bigger than the Lada. As difficult as it was for me to find one of these, imagine my surprise when I opened the boot to find a paltry Lada/Skoda-sized 300-slot inventory. Hopefully an easy fix.

I don't know... try resetting your settings fully be deleting graphic config file, something might be borked.
Also, check your display settings in your GPU settings, something might be wrong there.

Edit: Here's the path to the configs,

    C:\Users\*username*\Documents\DayZ

Backup and delete DayZ.cfg and *username*_settings.DayZProfile, and try running the game with both of those 2 deleted.
Game will automatically remake them, but your settings will be reset.

Edit 2: My gamma value in _settings.DayZProfile is "gamma=1;", which should be default value.

You nailed it - the windowed mode was doing it. Hopefully other folks see this post. The fact that my character was wearing sunglasses didn't help, but it was only slightly tinting the screen. The haze was all about that "Windowed" mode I was in.. not sure how that even happened.

Reduce your brightness to 50% (not 55%) or switch the game to Fullscreen mode, it does that when it's in Windowed mode (Windowed fullscreen that is) + boosted gamma over default value.

I'll try the fullscreen.. now that you mention it, I think I saw that it was in windowed mode despite being fullscreen. I do not however have the gamma settings altered.. so..

  5. I share much of your sentiment. I may have a private server you'd like...

PvP doesn't "ruin" the game, but it certainly takes the fun out of it for newer players who get twisted up by the controls and the general scarcity of effective lethal weapons in the early game. It also becomes quickly boring when surrender/submission isn't even a viable strategy if dickheads will shoot you completely unarmed with an open mic.

I've been of the mindset that the developers are slowly ratcheting up the PVE system to the extent that gear-hungry PVP-obsessed players lose interest in promoting the behavior. It has to start with players like you and me, continuing to avoid confrontations where possible, and giving strangers an alternative to being shot. You'll never convince everybody, but if a few start to see the game as more than a shooter it might spread. The contamination zones certainly add a wrinkle to people who want to gear up.

  6. I didn't get a lot of time on 1.13, but since getting back into this with 1.14 I've had to deal with what I can only describe as an ever-present haze... and I'm kinda over it. It's inside/outside/day/night and exists everywhere in Chenarus.  I've driven around the map, I've seen it in all weather types, and played at different times.. so this isn't a weather or time-of-day thing from what I can gather.  I've looked around and It appears that my gamma settings are all normal, but I'm happy to hear any advice.

Here's a few shots from just now..

  7. This appears to be working, for now. BEC was definitely the problem, and I tried a dozen different things. Ultimately what appears to have worked was a fresh install after a full purge of BEC, my server provider stepping in and looking over my shoulder for a fresh server install and several IP changes, and a lot of patience.

    What did not work:

    • Deleting and verifying the BEC files in my Steam directories.
    • Update video drivers
    • Updates of OS and AV
    • Deactivating the firewall
    • Forcing an update of the router firmware
    • Turning everything off, and then on again.

For the record, you're better off asking a bag of potato chips for support versus reaching out to BattlEye. They sent me a link to their FAQ and said "reply" if this doesn't help, then never responded when I did.

The DayZ support team, including one "Geez" also was no help and closed my ticket without a resolution.

What kind of gas is in the chemical zone?

I have not heard of the gas that causes bleeding that can be cured with a bandage.

I think a hybrid of Mustard Gas (bleeding blisters) and Phosgene Oxime Gas (fast-acting) would do this. They're old formulas, but among those sadistic NBC weapons that were designed to kill slowly and painfully rather than quick/dirty like VX gas. They also form a cloud close to the ground. Vesicant gases would actually be an effective tool against "Zombies" or an infected horde because they're lipophilic compounds that indiscriminately "burn" fatty organic tissue and would cause massive edema, cell death, and incapacitation regardless of the condition of the central nervous system. The fictionalization here is that Phosgene and Mustard don't have a hybrid formulation that I could find, so even though Phosgene can cause symptoms in under an hour (longer for Mustard), that's a lot more time than the 60-90 seconds you get in DayZ. Keep in mind that most of us are unaware of the most sadistic things our governments have developed, so considering the age of the formulas for Phosgene Gas (1812) and Mustard Gas (1822), nastier and more concentrated things are probably out there. That's enough for me to keep the immersion high.

Effect of Mustard Gas on the skin...

0x000400F0 - BATTLEYEKick administred by BattlEye (Can also be Admin Kick)

This information probably isn’t new for you. Definitely not something you need to reinstall 6 times for. Definitely BE kicking you.  Good luck.

It was six different iterrations of the reinstall.. so like a reinstall straight up, then one after scrubbing out BE, then another after changing firewall settings, etc. Literally trying everything. I have no clue why this is happening.

  10. I can't play. I'm going through withdrawal.

I've got over 3,300 hours logged, and something is giving giving me a persistent 0x000400f0 error and Kicking me via BattlEye. I've contacted BattlEye, and they're no help.. I've submitted a ticket via DayZ support and they just blamed BE and closed my ticket.. I've reinstalled the game 6 times, purged as many files as I can find ever time... I'm out of ideas and none of the support channels are willing to help.

I get kicked after 10-15 minutes from any server. It doesn't matter if its official or private, modded or unmodded. Same error, every time.

    PLEASE PLEASE HELP..

  11. I haven't posted in a while, so I'll make it a quit troll on this "patch" - FAK THE WIPES

Wipes probably don't do anything meaningful, the devs just like to play God and watch us moan 🤣  Bad UX it is.

Who cares if a few "legacy" pre-1.11 infinite batteries are hanging around for a couple of weeks. They'll phase-out.

Keys would be nice, so we could lock cars.

Then again, I stumbled upon a fully kitted car just outside the airfield once. It was so exhilarating, driving it away, thinking that the owner was about to pop me any second. That feeling shouldn’t necessarily be taken away from players.

I don’t think the devs want us to over-hoard our stuff anyway. I’m sure Nespesney said that things like bases should always be at risk of being broken into. Look at some of the servers that have tweaked base raiding, making it harder. You have to hold left mouse button for up to 20 minutes on some of them! How is that fun gameplay? All for the sake of people, essentially, having ‘gear fear’. It’s only loot, at the end of the day (more relevant if cars were easier to get going, I guess).

Pugman, I agree with you, at least in part. I'm suggesting things that add layers of 'nonsense' for people who want to commit wasteland crimes (LOL). The idea of making the hood release an option from the driver's seat plus lockable doors would be easy to defeat if a player happens to have a lockpick, but the same is true if they just happen to have a battery and spark plug. Assuming they don't, you've added an obstacle for an assailant to overcome. That's where this game really shines... How many times have you gone running a simple errand to find something specific, only to find it suddenly/seemingly unattainable? You go looking for a lockpick and find yourself treed in a house surrounded by zombies.

Another way they could do this is to add more components to the car which can be removed prior to logging out. At one point they had serpentine belts as a required component to get the vehicle running. Let's bring that back, and maybe throw-in fuses. I guarantee if the scenario of this game was happening in real life, I could do things to a car that would make it virtually un-stealable.  For the sake of preserving an interesting player experience, I'm sure we could limit it to items that could be found in the environment... just more of them.

  13. "Immersion aficionados" would hate these ideas, but I say immersion is a bullshit reason to kill any idea in a survival game when a compelling non-immersive element exists. If I can't be in the game 24/7 to protect my shit, then there should exist handicaps to thwart thieves and griefers.

Speaking of which - are Landmines persistent yet? I had a few vanish (pretty sure no one hit them, and they can't be 'defused')

  14. In general, cars are both awesome and brain damage.

I've been thinking about a new mechanic to help reduce theft - the Hood (bonnet) can only be "popped" from the driver's seat (like real life), and the car doors themselves are lockable with the lock pick.

I wish the devs would start to consider the futility of base building and putting a car together when it's so simple for assholes to steal and grief.

  15. I'm hoping the community has a little experience that can shed light on things I've otherwise only assigned theories.

My first question to the community is if anyone understands the Car spawn mechanic. Do the cars spawn on weekly server maintenance, or on the twice-daily server refreshes?

Regarding glitches - will a car despawn automatically if any part of it is ruined? We had a car that otherwise seemed very safe with one ruined tire, and hours later (after a nightly server refresh) it was gone.

Also, has anyone successfully parked a vehicle inside a structure where it DIDN'T disappear on the server reset? My current understanding is that cars (being a server-side entity) will 'drop' into place on a server reset, which in many cases causes them to land on the roof and thusly crash/ruin and vanish.

  16. So I thought this problem was gone, but it's not. I logged around 2AM EST(US) with my car tucked neatly into a grove of trees. Two tires, battery, and plug were removed to reduce the likelihood of theft.

This morning, around 9AM EST(US) I checked in to find the car 5-10 meters from where I left it, on its side. This is a GAME-BREAKING bug and needs to be addressed. I can't speak for what server resets occurred in the server in the 7 hours I wasn't in, but this clearly wasn't a player's doing. The cars are still flinging around after being left in stationary places.

I haven't been that way in a few days, I'll make sure to check on it tonight.

It is starting to look like some cars were corrupted by the update and are tossed about and damaged by server restarts, until ruined and cleaned away by the CLE.

    Interesting...

Are you able to confirm that it's only cars that came before the 1.03 patch? SO if I know for certain I'm driving a car that's come AFTER the patch it should stay?

This actually lines up with the first car I lost.. It was sitting in an unusual place with the two tires I left on it, both ruined, plus the radiator ruined. I thought maybe someone tried to drive it on two wheels, but there was no way they could have gone uphill and over a fence LOL. Did this patch/corruption also impact barrels?

Our Olgas (we have three) have all behaved normally. One I left in a ditch after an embarrassing off road event still hasn't despawned.

Did that Olga in the ditch disappear?

Part of my problem here is not knowing if the game (or anyone with a similar problem) is logging the despawn of a car. In my three day experiment I specifically DID NOT interact with the vehicle. I would spawn in to verify it was still there, then log. After about 3 days it was gone, and the loot in the tent was untouched. I'm making assumptions here (but certainly no stretch of logic) that a player stealing that car, either alone or with friends and having carried two tires and a battery to this remote location would have taken at least SOME of the loot in that tent. It's a non-zero chance they'd pass on everything inside, but very very unlikely.

I have a server on a private shard. We have plenty of spawned vehicles but I have not experienced any vehicles disappearing as of yet. They're all still in the same spots we've left them in. Does anyone know if this happening on experimental also or just the official public shard vanilla servers?

I've been wondering about this. My belief is that its base on full non-interaction.. so no manipulating of inventory, parts or physical movement of the car. My 'bait' experiment may just be a coincidence, but it's such a small likelihood. It's also not beyond the pale that a hack is allowing players to find discretely hidden vehicles.

  20. OK, so I'm about 80% sure cars are despawning after a couple of days. This time I tested it by leaving bait in a tent just next to a very well hidden car. If the car was stolen, they would have had to have shown up with 2 tires, a battery and a plug  - AND passed up ammo/mags/decent loot and a tent (+camo netting). The tent and loot were untouched, but the car is gone. I've had a few cars vanish recently after a couple of days of non-interaction, and up until now I've been assuming theft... this instance reaks of despawn (bug or otherwise). Is there a new countdown timer on vehicles despawning?
