Improvised Flamethrower & radio controlled IED

A flamethrower seems a little impractical, and pointless.. I wouldn't hold your breath. Remote IED's on the other hand would be an interesting addition once vehicles are available. I'm sure there's something in the works with existing items like the walkie-talkie/transmitter.

Items you'd like to see on DayZ

    Thats a great list. :beans:
  3. Makes the game seem more like a death-simulator than a survival simulator. I'm concerned that the devs seem to be making moves designed to make death more punishing, rather than balancing the game for enjoyment. Looting your own corpse should be acceptable if unrealistic wonton violence is acceptable. People trying to survive with full bellies and plenty of supplies wouldn't aimlessly kill people they encounter in an apocalypse. How realistic is for a guy with a rifle to hide in the woods next to Kamy looking to kill people who materialize from thin air on a beach.. in a survival game?? Where do you draw the line exactly?

    Finally found Press Vest

Its the rail station.. there's one just like it in Cherno. Should be right next to the rails and looks like a small house-style, commuter rail station.
  5. This is an allstar post  I'll be trying this on someone.
  6. 10 minutes isn't enough time. This is a game of opportunism, and if you don't need something the first time, maybe you'll need it on the way back. How bout our man Dean and that dead Bangladeshi he found on Everest? Maybe he didn't need his carabiners when he first ascended past the corpse, but whats to say he doesn't want one or two on the way back? Did the body disappear? A body with loot remains valuable to someone until every piece is picked. The bodies should remain until the server resets. If a hard count is necessary for some other reason, then I still think 10 minutes isn't enough. If it takes you more than 10 minutes to kill a group of bandits, the first kill might be gone before you can circle back after taking out his back-up. Especially if the fight is at long range, like a sniper in a tower (where there's step to climb and rooms to search.

Is the stab vest different from the Tactlical vest? Anyone tested both??
  8. Here's the thing... there's this search bar at the top that allows you to search for a keyword within the topic rather than the whole forum. :o Consider a single word or words that pertain to what you're looking for and search. It will give you a list of people's posts (again, only from within this topic) that will potentially answer your question. For example, I wanted to know the proposed location of Svetloyarsk, so I was able to browse just the posts that included the new city within the topic by searching for 'Svetloyarsk' Not too hard.
  9. Love the update  Any word on the location of Svetloyarsk?

    Grenades in DayZ,what you think?

This is a Slavic region afterall.. The Molotov needs to appear at some point. I think it should only ever be something you can craft, never a ready-to-go discoverable item.

    Grenades in DayZ,what you think?

I'm not so concerned about military grenades. If there was truly a military incursion by the USMC in the storyline, there'd be plenty of HE grenades and flashbangs. I too would like to see satchel charges or C4. Big explosives are never a detriment as long as they're used right. Making them somewhat hard to find and large (3x3) in an inventory would be sufficient to balance their prevalence. As far as craftable explosives, there's a lot of great suggestions. Consider the pliers could finally have a use, for disassembling bullets perhaps. Gunpowder for hand made explosives and the slugs for canister shot or shrapnel. I also think the blue gas cans and large propane tanks outside certain buildings should be explosive when shot.

    Headtorch tweaks

Amen dude. Such a bitch to have to choose. Especially when I'm fully loaded and can't swap the helmet (4 slots) for the headlamp (1 slot) in my inventory.

    Hot keys for flashlights, bipod...

Definitely. I'm only using the M4 light sparingly to preserve the battery and not be seen, having to go through the inventory is probably getting folks killed.

    Add more weapons!

Nor are they Czech ;) Fact of the matter is that the signs are in Russian and Czechs have their own language that the designers would have used if the game was truly meant to be Czech Republic. Just sayin. PP-19 is not exclusive to the Russian police, but it is highly prevalent in Eastern Europe and Russia. If you want to be really honest about Eastern Europe, the CZ VZ-61 Scorpion would win in terms of geographic significance. Available in 9MM Parabellum or Makarov, .32ACP, or .380ACP, 20 &10 mags. About as accurate as snake shot, you'll be reloading mags every 5 seconds. Variety is the spice of life mein freund, we need SUBMACHINE GUNS

    Add more weapons!

No love for Submachine guns? How about the PP-19 Bizon? Can be built for chambering 9mm Parabellum, 9mm Makarov, 380, and 7.62x25 (like the Tokarev TT33); 53-round mag; no glam, all business and currently in use by the Russian Police. I've always had a soft spot for the MP5 as well.

Mosin or M4? Consider upcoming changes to game

The SKS is a great bridge. In its real-world form (i own one) it holds 11 rounds, semi-auto gas recoil, but a different round from the Mosin. The M91 is 7.62x54, the SKS is 7.62x39 (same as the AK47) thus slightly less powerful. Both have lower muzzle velocity than 556, but the .308 slug on 7.62 has better man-stopping power. Again, in terms of the 'real world', the SKS comes standard with a collapsible bayonette. It can also be modified with a muzzle attachment to be a grenade launcher, and there's a receiver cover modification for a scope (i have both). Personally, I feel the game has a lot of disrespect for the accuracy of the M4, and in real world terms it would be a more accurate weapon than an SKS, but not as survivable. The SKS is similar to the AK47 in that it has loose tolerances that allow it to operate under extreme levels of abuse. If this game were modeled after real life A 7.62x39 ammunition would be far more plentiful B the M4 would be finicky without maintenance and C the SKS would have an attached bayonette. Found alone with no additional parts, the SKS would be a great workhorse. I digress. Between the Mosin and the M4, the M4 satisfies more issues in the game's current state. There's no deer hunting, and most player interactions occur in close quarters. I'd take the M4 because in a firefight the Mosin has to be manually rechambered between shots, in which time the M4 can hose an entire 30-rnd clip.

    Defibrillator ?

I've been in agreement with this position for most of my argument. Dead is dead. I even mentioned in another post that a headshot (aka brain splattered on the ground) is never a situation you can recover from. Having been knocked out by someone with a bat and with fists, I can say that the simplest use of "unconsciousness" is a situation you can reawaken from yourself. Bleeding out, severe poisoning, starvation, chest wounds, stabbings, etc. would be an avenue for a defib to have a 'special' use. Essentially I'm looking for more variability in the way injuries do and don't lead to death. If this is accomplished by altering the parameters of unconsciousness, so be it. I suppose I'm also caught up in the semantics of someone who's heart stops due to blood loss as 'unconsciousness' ..but I'd be more unhappy if it meant instant death.

    Duo Blackrose's list of pistols

Agreed. I think since you released this post there have been additions, namely the confirmed (?) CZ-75. I've actually fired this myself and would be a great find in places like police stations, police cars, and in cities. 9mm needs to be the standard for this game, not .45ACP or .357. It would be great if they added both the CZ75 and the compact CC version, the RAMI. They could make compact versions relevant by having them use up fewer slots in an inventory; say two slots instead of four. Glock 17/19 and HK USP would also be fairly common. Both can be found chambered in 9mm or .45ACP (among other calibers) A 1911 or five-seven (not to mention 5-7 ammo) would be very uncommon in Eastern Europe/Russia, HOWEVER.. so too would the M4. The militaries of these areas would use AK47(74), G3 or FN FAL variants/clones by and large. If we're seeing M4's as the most common primary rifle, then the sky's the limit. Beretta M9 or SigSauer 220/228/229 would all me great to see. The Deagle is totally impractical, and propagated mostly by video games.

    Suggestions for the defibrillator

Make it require multiple batteries. Forcing people to carry multiple sizes of batteries might seem frivolous to people struggling find extra space.

    Suggestions for the defibrillator

From a purely medical standpoint you are, of course, correct. But this is a video game, and the medical complexities of cardiology are lost on the lowest-common denominator. "Flat-lined" is a universally accepted media-propagated condition that we have been led to believe is reversible with defibrillation or CPR. Wiki - Ventricular fibrillation (V-fib or VF) is a condition in which there is uncoordinated contraction of the cardiac muscle of the ventricles in the heart, making them quiver rather than contract properly. Ventricular fibrillation is the most commonly identified arrhythmia in cardiac arrest patients. Telling a user "You are experiencing Ventricular Fibrillation" is a bit cumbersome. Medically speaking it goes beyond mere unconsciousness [to be in this state] and could be used by the game to bridge the gap between instant death by [insurmountable] trauma like headshots, and slightly less serious trauma, like body shots or severe blood loss.

    Suggestions for the defibrillator

Uninstalling is a little extreme. That's basically my point, the game offers an open-ended orgy for murderous dick-holes to thrill themselves with the palpable frustration suffered by those they force to start over, but few remedies for serious injury for their victims to salvage hours of gameplay. I agree in part though; a person revived in this way would have to suffer through an arduous healing process and likely need further treatment to survive, BUT they'd at least be able to keep their gear. It might also add a level of complexity to the game (caring for weakened comrades, new medical items, etc) I agree with this approach wholeheartedly. My perspective is that defibs and similar high-level medical intervention are merely an opportunity to save a friend from starting from scratch, not a miraculous works-every-time remedy like the bandages and saline. Similarly, should multiple steps be required [in a particular order and with particular items], many would-be defibrillations would end up moot in the absence of a blood bag or IV starter kit [for example]. An added element to the game might be skilled medics; players who specialize in the collection of medical equipment, consumables and crafting. Having a medic in your crew would make the group that much more survivable. Real-world field medics can perform complex surgery, close arteries, set bones, cauterize open wounds, etc. with basic instruments. The defib and corresponding pre- and post-steps are [or could be] representative of the game's lack of many other complex medical needs.

Smelling salts might be an alternative to epi-pens for an unconsciousness. Consider content that is accepted fact for this game that we don't question. If I can remain conscious and continue playing after closing a gushing neck wound with a ripped T-shirt, or be miraculously revived by a bag of salt water, I can't see why there aren't more "survivable" scenarios pertaining to more serious injuries [using the right equipment].

    Defibrillator ?

Dead is dead, agreed. But as mentioned above, "braindead" is "truly" dead. Severe blood loss is a common affliction in this game, along with starvation and dehydration that might first lead to cardiac arrest long before brain-death. My suggestion is that they add an in-between level of death called simply "You have flat-lined" So... the order would be: 1st. You are unconscious 2nd. You are flat-lined 3rd. You are dead. :P I agree that mindless, repeated BF-style reviving of a riddled body is stupid. Using the example of the Lone Wolf vs. the Squad, if the Lone Wolf was effective enough as an assassin to connect a headshot, he shouldn't be "disregarded" for his effort by the group's ability to revive their fallen partner ad infinitum. However, if the lone wolf could only connect torso/limb shots, or a melee attack which might currently result in death [rather than unconsciousness], it might be an opportunity for a squad member to apply life-saving bandages and defib. Though it might create a need for further programming (like a flatline-to-death-countdown), it might also bolster the efforts by the game's creators to incorporate realistic medical situations, like adding CPR (with a corresponding lower-success rate). No body is questioning the fact that bandages miraculously stop bleeding, whether from a bite on the arm or an axe to the torso; furthermore, there is a balance between realism and gaming, and I for one would appreciate more opportunities to revive a partner after hours of collecting gear and staying alive.
